Whenever I'm deciding which of my EDC blades to take with me for the day I always have a hard time choosing. I always end up carrying more than one, Five to be exact. Does anyone else have a hard time deciding which knife to carry so you end up taking more than one? If so which two do you have the most trouble with deciding on?

I have sometimes purchased several leading up to a trip and then have a hard time deciding which one to take.

I always take into account that I may have to use it and then 'lose it." :)

The Buck Vantage Pro posted is my go-to favorite.

LOL, Dave I have the same issue.  I  am at SMKW for rep weekend and I brought 7 carries for 2 days  because I could not decide

William, it's funny you should state the number 5, that is exactly the number I took for our fall leaf trek through Nerstrand Big Woods (just out of Northfield, MN) last weekend.  Leatherman Charge AL, Victorinox One Hand Trekker, Spyderco Superleaf, my new Marttiini Raven (AWESOME wedding anniversary present from my wife, shipped direct from Finland because no distributors have it stateside currently, & the Euro to Dollar is excellent for us at the moment), & my ESEE Laser Strike (most for photo ops; I'm in the process of writing a review on it now).

I looked at the small pile of knives I had & thought it was a completely natural number of knives to bring along.  What shocked me is that I didn't chuck a few more in the pack for good measure!

Jan, you were remarkably restrained with 7, given that you were at SMKW as a rep -- I'd just overload with all the possible options, including the ones that I would have no doubt bought while I was there!  :)

Dave, I really like my Buck Vantage Pro -- picked it up as a birthday present for myself a few years back & it's still one of those that finds its way into my pocket quite frequently.  There's just something to that blend of classic meeting modern style -- drew me to it for months before I pulled the trigger, & I still love it.  And I think I've touched it up maybe twice on a ceramic rod in those several years.

I usually carry a minimum of four. Pen knife in watch pocket, medium lockblade in left pocket, and slip joints in sheaths on each side on my belt. If wearing boots I also have a small lockblade clipped into one of them. I always carry at least one lockblade, theory being a slip joint is less reliable in a knife fight, (one would assume having a blade fold back on you in a fight might be a disadvantage). I also always have a fanny pack with a medium lockblade and a multi-tool, (so as many as seven "EDC's" if you count all the knives that accompany me each day). I rotate my EDC's, so my main problem is figuring out which one today?  There are knives in most of those sheaths, and not all of them are even shown in this photo.

Of course we must color coordinate! Black sheaths goes better with camo, brown goes better with blue jeans. I usually only carry my fixed blades when camping, so I don't consider them as "every day" knives. All but a couple are in my EDC rotation.

LOL, I thought only Donnies EDC table looked like that

Obviously I suffer from a lack of room, it's getting hard to fit them all in actually, that's why many are kept in sheaths. I'm actually considering moving the fish tank to make more room for knives up there, as it is out of reach of my grabby 18 month old grandson. Though most (not all) of my knives are SS, I have to be vigilant about keeping them oiled. I live a couple of short blocks from the ocean, and especially have to regularly clean those kept in sheaths, as they tend to concentrate atmospheric moisture. Even the stainless ones can get a green oxidation on the bolsters that has to be buffed off if I don't keep up with it. Due to the corrosive atmosphere I never keep any of my fixed blades in sheaths, most especially the carbon or CV bladed ones, those I wipe with an oiled rag weekly. The ones out on display also need dusting regularly, and that can be a little dicey. I make sure to wear shoes when doing that in case open knives come flying off the stump(s), which has happened a time or two. Of course if we have an earthquake I hope to not be anywhere near it, that's for sure!

Syd,

Have you tried Renaissance Wax ?

No I haven't. Where would I find it? In this environment it might behoove me to use something better than light machine oil.

i always have multiple knives on me and in my edc. my favorite pocket knife these days is 1986 buck folder 301. on my hip is a 50th aniversery 110.

that is the bare min. for me

oh almost forgot the leatherman.

For a while I used to rotate my EDC knives. Now that I have discovered my favorites, I carry the same two everyday (or almost everyday). My Benchmade 585 Mini Barrage and my Leatherman Skeletool CX. Between the two of them, there are very few tasks I can do. I do like to carry my Jackal, from Greg Dash, but I don't want to hurt that one, so it is carried on special occasions.

As I stated earlier on this thread, my EDC changes on a daily basis, (depending on how many pockets I have). I always have a belt sheath on each hip, and when I wear pants with cargo pockets I may have as many as 5 knives on me.

Today was a three knife day: a 1970's Craftsman #95232 4" folding hunter on the right, (traditional lock blade), a 4" Case Seahorse Whittler on the left side. In the pocket was a 1960's Robeson Barlow. For safety and/or defense, no matter how many I carry, at least one is always a lock blade.

As soon as I saw this group I knew it was for me. Got my 1st knife at 12 years of age from my Grandma. That was 48 years ago and been carrying at least one every day since then. Now that I'm retired there's usually 3-6 knives on me somewhere most days. There's one in my front jeans pocket for cutting boxes open and such, a little gentleman's knife of some kind in my vest pocket, one of my 'fancy' knives on my belt for showing off, and usually one or two tacticals somewhere. My current favorite is a Blackjack Yukon Skinner with stag scales from Seki. It's not a cutter, just a showin' off knife. I always have trouble putting a new knife in a show case without carrying it for at least a few days. My 1st wife got me the Buck 110 below for my birthday in 1983 and it has been through the wars. Just spent an entire day bringing it back to life last month. Not much to look at, but I wouldn't trade it for 3 Randalls.
