Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I have a Buck Odyssey ATS-34, model 182.  It has brown graphite composite handles and the fasteners protrude slightly (unlike Buck production models).  This knife also has the word PROTOTYPE imprinted on the blade.  Should this be a knife to be used or one on display (valuable or rare)?

I may be wrong, but that looks like a Chuck Buck  signature on the blade. I'd keep that on a shelf myself.

Brian-That is one I definitely would display and not use--- Rare?? Probably the only one in existence !! The "U" after the 182 indicates that it was made in 1998 the first year the Odyssey series was produced. The 182 was one of only 2 Odyssey patterns made the first year, the other being the 181. Your knife has 3 rather unique features. One that handle material was not used in the 1998 production version. It is a marked Prototype, and thirdly as Manx pointed out, it was hand etched and signed by both CJ Buck AND Chuck Buck and dated 2004, although the knife was made in 1998.Chuck Buck passed away this year, so his signature alone would enhance the value.I'm not a big Buck collector, but I would venture it's at least worth a couple hundred dollars and probably more and sure to increase in value over time. I would bet most serious Buck collectors would drool over this one of a kind gem !!

Makes you wonder how a one of a kind prototype gets out in circulation like this one. Neat.

Thanks for the information, I didn't realize what i had in my hands.  This will be put away and passed on to son and grandkids

Don't you dare use that baby!!!
