Thanks!

An old double blade auto - BOTH blades were auto open.... Photos added....

Knife belongs to a friend of mine.... Not in very good shape, belonged to his Grandpa.

I had never seen one with dual auto open blades in one knife like this before?

One blade is broken off.....

Close ups of the stamp.....

!!!!! ....     Thanks, Todd .. great pics    .... !!!!!!

That's a new tang stamp for me .. the "G.Shrade" in an arch over "Knife Co" in an arch over "B'PORT,CT.

Doing what you do .. you've probably taken one apart. It was the first time I'd seen a bushing used around the pivot point. Have you ever replaced the scales on one ??

Never have, he would probably let me do this one, it is cool little knife.

Just in bad - bad shape.

Well I think it would be worth it, being pre-ban and a double, but especially when you add sentimental value.  Looks like somebody sat down while it was in their back pocket, so the liner may be bent a bit.  Is the other blade gone?  To the best of my knowledge the biggest problem with those proposed repairs is they may cost close to value depending on the extent and authenticity of the repairs.  If you decide on a rescale that celluloid may be hard to find but is still available though, and if the penblade is missing that could be remade or replaced too.  If on the other hand you don't want to tackle the job I do know a few people in the U.S. that are very competent and would be happy to put you folks in touch.

I've seen this one listed at 600.00 in mint condation and seen a few go for half of that. Speaking of the presto double. I'd get her fixed for sure.

I do not repair any knives really, not that I couldn't do it? And this one belonging to a friend, I may consider doing it?

I do not care much for the celluloid at all. It would be up to him I guess what is done with it? The blades seem to have been the same size? And that would be the easiest thing for me to do is remake the blade, besides duplicate the stamp? Decisions - decisions?

I do appreciate the input here, will pass it a long and go from there? If I / we do fix the knife? I will be sure to show you guys here on what becomes of it?

Thanks!

Todd

Todd .. @ those prices .. I've got one 2-blade & a couple single blade Schrades as "box kits" !! :D

I feel the same about "celluloid" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to carry this one .. tis an old Schrade Cut Co split back whittler .. it has some very respectable steel in it for its time period .. mid to late 40's. Anyway .. was digging for some "rocks" for the  Knife Sharpeners  Group & found I'd packed this away with em .. it's gassing out :(

... and once it starts .. I know of no way to stop it :(

check it out. close.

Hello Todd,

I had a look at your page, you do beautiful work, he's lucky to have a friend with talent that can get it done right.  I understand what you mean about the celluloid.  I wouldn't have it any other way but that's just my humble and personal opinion.   As for duplicating the stamp that wouldn't be a good thing; better blank or with your stamp.

Looking forward to checking out your website,
