Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I would like to get a discussion going on Damascus Steel. There is alot of damascus out there containing all kinds of elements good and bad. Some end up as quality knife steel while others fall short of the mark. A knife containing carbon steel and nickle, I would consider it a carbon steel damascus. If we have members of this group [and I know we must] that have knowledge of damascus steel and its properties, please join in this discussion and help us learn more about it.

its the best of the best stainless damascus ,higher end makers use it ,very expensive but if your a collector then its very low upkeep, some lesser damascus will rust to pieces if you look at it wrong lol
http://www.damasteel.com/  it is good steel..

Tkotavuopio,

Thanks for the info on wootz, I dont beleive I have ever seen that before but I like the look.  What is the difference in the and damascus in production?

actually damascus is a generic term its called wootz or pattern welded steel ,

put picture becouse this belief. wootz is made by crucible, where "normal" damascus is laminated steels.

We can discuss wootz steel too. If you have some info please add it here.
Charles, this is a carbon steel group, damasteel sounds great. If it's made for collectors, you may have trouble getting people to like it here. This group has alot of user steel members. Feel free to discuss it here as I said. Lets have fun and see if we can learn more about knife steel and the people that rather one over another.
no i dont think i made it clear damasteel is very useable moreso than carbon damascus ,it doesnt rust at all also holds a way better pattern than any other steel that ive seen ,very tight small grained pattern through out ,meaning when u grind it the outside pattern stays the same unlike other pattern steel that looks great on one side and flawed and inconsistent on the other side
sounds like your a good spokesperson for their company...lol
