Algie, first of a beautiful knife and a great job of scrimshaw! You have to respect those big cats. Jan did ask folks in our scrimshaw group if the might know this person and we will see what they find out!
Thanks
Well so far nobody knows this person and I have called people to find out! Who knows, perhaps someone will know. It does look a little like some scrimshaw that Linda Karst Stone does for Case. If we can ever get her maybe she would know?
Hi Algie,
Here is what I found in the book "The Second Scrimshaw Connection" on page 109: Don is a California Artist and Scrimshander. Most of his art from teens to present, has been in pencil, pen & inks, his interest in Scrimshaw was stimulated by a sperm whale tooth given to him by his wife in 1973. He is self taught and his style is an accumulation of techniques. Three of Don's work are reproduced on page 112 in the same book. "The photos of the indian and trappers showing his style were inspired by Bodner and John Clymer. Don's wife owns an art gallery, some of his work can be seen there".
Don's address is listed in 1989 as:
Don R. Myrer
P.O. Box 1592
Twain Harte, CA 95383
Hope this little bit of info is helpful.
Best regards.
