The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
I have always focussed on Pattern Collecting. For example, I have collected Case Sway Backs, GEC BJMs and Outlaws, and 73 single blades, non-baled White Owls etc. I'm thinking, however, that a collection of a certain handle material (regardless of pattern) would be kind of cool. For example, Primitive Bone or American Elk. Anybody out there collect that way? I would love to see that kind of collection. Just curious . . .

I have done some of that with some of the cheaper imports such as Rough Rider and Steel Warrior.
Donnie collects by the Primitive Bone material. Not to say he doesnt collect anything else but he does have a focus on those and actually has one of every pattern they have done it in. I dont know that we have taken any pics of the whole collection in a year or so but they are all indivdually up in our pics. I may have to try to get them out and get a group shot :).
Gary,
Good timing on this one! The new JBF Champlin built by GEC is featuring rosewood handles actually gathered from the old Cattaraugus factory. That is one I will be collecting for the handle materials
Thanks, Jan, I'm sure the rosewood is going to be beautiful. I might have to procure one of those and see how I like it.
