Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Well that was my question for the show this weekend and I got some fantastic answers

Frank Powers:

We bring our own family, children/grandchildren ect. into it first.  Frank was true to his idea... his family was there with him on Saturday.

Ken Daniels:

Get them involved.  Show them knives and talk to them about knives.  The Sharpkidz program is a fantastic way

Mark Zalesky:

Get them to the shows and the hammer ins.  Let them see them as tools.

Each of these three gave me some ideas on how we can help make this happen but I would like to know what you think.

How do we bring our next generation to knife collecting?

I guess that's the way I did it. I got my sons interested in knives, they are getting their sons interested in knives. (I only say "sons" because you see, we have no girls in the family......well except for the wives......of course)

I had an opportunity this week to help a young man grow his interest and I tell you, it has been fun to see him be so excited

Kade (my 8 yr old) working on his 1st sold knife. Thanks to Jan Carterwho bought it. Kade is excited!!

Young Kade did a fine job on the knife.

Both my girls have their own small collections and are discovering their favorites, too.

As a society, we need to renew the idea that knives are, first and foremost, tools to be used, not "weapons" to be feared.

Yes I agree and changing that perception will have to start with Kade and his generation.  It is too late for the 30 somethings out there now that already have the fear instilled

boy scouts, girl scouts, outdoor camps, summer camps,Internet connection with them along with knife collection and safety

educational offerings.

So my knife came today!

I believe it is yellow heart and mahogany.. It has pins, scales and a tang stamp.  A young put his heart into making it and it probably one of my favorite knives now!  Thanks Kade

sweet ...now that is some GOD given talent...great job...and congrats Jan!

That is so good, I remember how that whole thing started. You have a good gifted friend there Jan and he has made a great knife for what I guess is his very first!

Good job!

Very nice, you have another great knife maker as a friend. I agree with JJ. 100%, a knife is a tool. Infact, I think it was the first tool of mankind. I hope Kade, keeps up his interest in knives, it's a great hobby with alot of nice people involed.

Very cool indeed!
