Good Ken, you are a true sportsman.  Better to pass on a shot than risk just wounding game.

Saw this guy tonight about 7pm - but could not get a decent shot, so I passed.

I watched him with Binos about 15 minutes but he would not turn for a shot. He was about 19 yds.

Don't you just love to be that close to a wild animal and him not know you are there watching him?  Binos at 19 yards, you could probably almost count his hairs. LOL

I once passed up a six foot shot at a doe.  I was in one of my portable ground blinds and this doe came walking up following the same trail I had used to get to the blind.  It got right in front of my blind and stopped giving me a broad side shot.  If it had been much closer I could have reached out and touched it.  I was tempted to shoot it with my .45 pistol.  The reason I didn't was because I had gotten a glimpse of a nice buck just a little before the doe came by.  I was hoping to get a shot at the buck but didn't.  But I sure enjoyed being so close to that deer and just watching it.  It just stood there for a  couple of minutes and then ambled off.

It was just turning dark, so I could only see a shadow with the eye, but with binos and scope I could see him good, but just not a good enough kill shot.

There's time for a good shot. You are still bow hunting?

Yes, Gun season is Dec 2-8 - so I mostly Bow hunt.

I am fortunate.  My bow season is three and a half months and gun season two and a half months.

Our gun season is almost too long. 1/2 of Nov. all of Dec. and 1/2 of Jan. I wish it was a bit shorter.

Our gun season is half of Nov., all of Dec., and all of Jan.

I think, shorter seasons cut up into segments, would work better. Like the best two weeks of each month. The rut in one segment and the others when the moon is small and the feeding is more in daylight ours. Just my ideas. The deer may become less query this way.

Ken, is that another coon behind the one standing up?
