Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Hello everyone.

My wife and I are flying out to Maryland next week for our grandson's first birthday.

We would like to buy him his first pocket knife and would like it to be a Case. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to get him?

Would like to get him one every year...oh and I did see the Birthday knives but Nov.13th 2012/2013 are both sold out.

Jan, I didn't see that one in the PDF catalog....I like it best.

Hi Max, my wife likes this one best and thanks for the link.

May have to see which one we can find first.

Thanks to both of you for responding, We are going to look locally first then look in the MD,DC area if need be.

Goo luck on your search! Sounds like a great time! Always fun looking for that Special Knife!

Not trying to bad mouth new Case knives at all but production on the newer knives is pretty high with many different handle types available. If I were to buy a Case, especially a first birthday Case I might try to pick up something a bit more rare like a vintage Case pre 1980 and preferrably pre 1970. Maybe a barlow or a peanut or a whittler?

I was in the Randall Made Knives shop a few weeks ago and two parents were there with a few of their kids and they told me that one of their dads had bought a Randall for one of their kid's first birthday and kept that tradition going by buying a new Randall for each of the boys every year. I thought that was pretty cool and asked them if he would consider adopting me! At the time RMK still had over 60 knives left over from their fall sale. I posted pictures of the available knives over at the Randall group here on iKC. I called Scott over at Randall a day or two ago and he said they still had around 30 knives left for sale - in case you want a renound fixed blade knife to go along with your Case knife! If you have any interest, check out the pics that I posted, check out their web site and give Scott or Jason Randall a call and tell them Tom sent you! I picked up three new Randalls this year but it took me two days and two trips to their shop to make up my mind on the last one. In any event, Happy Shopping!!!

Here's another "My First Knife" suggestion.........

Now that's cute...is it a Mini Trapper?

That's a Tiny Trapper  Michael. I carry one everyday. It's about 2 1/2" closed.

Actually the production ones have "My First Case" stamped in the front bolster. That picture is a pre-production picture.

Definately in the running if I can find one.

Next weekend is the Fredrick Gun/Knife show in Maryland so maybe I can find something there.

Hi Tom, thanks for your information. The RMK looks like some fine knives, more of what I might want for myself.

Should have noted that I have never bought a new knive, in fact my the newest knife I own is a 1990 Cripple Creek trapper.

So...I don't know anything about where quality lies these days, just know that Case is made in the US and I'm happy with my older ones.
