Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Hello Everyone,

I am brand new to this site and it looks great and very interesting.

I am 44 years old, and my father passed away when I was just 16 years old.  My fondest memories were of him taking me camping and fishing, and he always had a cool knife on him, the same knife through the years.  I remember at the age of 10 or so him using it, so that takes it back to 1981.  I recently found the knife and wanted to see its vintage.

He may have told me that he obtained it from his father, which would make it extra special to me.

I looked at the tang stamp charts for Western knifes very carefully to compare them to mine, in hopes of knowing if this could have been my grandfather's knife before it became my fathers.  My knife is an L40 model, but the tang stamp is:

W E S T E R N

Boulder, Colo

     USA

I have not seen this tang stamp with the USA included on any charts, so if anyone knows what vintage this knife is, I would love to know.

Thanks in Advance,

Daniel

Daniel- Your L40 dates to the mid 1950's or so.I have seen that same stamp on other Western sheath knives of that era. BTW, the L in L40 meant leather, describing the leather wrapped handle. The L40 was basically a smaller version of the L39 pattern, which is more common to find. The L39 had an OAL of 9 1/4 inches, and the L40 an OAL of 8 inches.Nice family treasure you have there !!
