The time has come to start the discussion on the 2014 iKC knife.
I would again like to shoot for August/Sept delivery date. Something to remember while we talk about this is that a short run of only 50 or so knives means we need to tie in with a maker that is already running a knife and tweak that one to make it our own. The reason for this is most SFO's require a minimum order of 250 or more. Also I would like to keep it less than $125.00 delivered to you. I have some eyes checking out whats available at a factory or two but always love to hear your ideas. Remember, this is YOUR knife

Yes well said, and after all knife companies are allowed to make a slight profit! The 50 or so knives we ask them to produce really is not a huge deal to any of them. They do want to help us, they know us and are willing to work with us.
Well said is right.
We must trust in Miss Jan to bargain a good deal with one of the knife companies. She knows the main companies we want and she has a good idea of the main knives we like. She now has to see which companies will have in production at the right time of year, a knife that will hopefully be one that a majority of members like. I can see her choices will not be a wide variety of patterns. I don't envy her, the job. Good luck.

That's pretty true Rob. 154CM was the american replacement for ATS34.
RWL34 was the European replacement for ATS34. RWL34 is a powder steel however and in a lot of ways superior to 154CM.
So Crucible (company that makes 154CM) came up with a powder variant of their steel called CPM154. (Crucible Powder Mettallurgy 154).
99% of custom makers now use CPM154 where they formerly used 154CM or ATS34. In Europe RWL34 is still very populair.

Ya'll know my favorite steels are Carbon but I must admit some stainless steels do a fine job. ATS34 and 154CM are two that do a fine job. I have several knives in ATS134 but only two in 154CM, so it's hard for me to compare the two steels. If I were to compare them, on my limited samples, I would say 154CM takes a sharper edge. I wish I had more knives to compare. Does anyone else feel this way?
I do, I'm always wishing I had more knives :)

I prefer the 154CPM as does Donnie, Robert. It takes an edge easier for me and it holds better for him
Since my comments about preferring ATS-34 on any club knife from Queen seem to have sparked some discussion on the relative merits of this steel compared to other, newer "super-steels", I want to be clear that my desire for ATS-34 was limited to any club knife from Queen, since I believe that this is the ONLY high-end STAINLESS steel they offer. I've got a boatload of D-2 and 1095 Queen pieces, and accordingly, I would much prefer a stainless steel IF Jan decides on an offering from Queen. Cheers - Jon S.
