The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
The time has come to start the discussion on the 2014 iKC knife.
I would again like to shoot for August/Sept delivery date. Something to remember while we talk about this is that a short run of only 50 or so knives means we need to tie in with a maker that is already running a knife and tweak that one to make it our own. The reason for this is most SFO's require a minimum order of 250 or more. Also I would like to keep it less than $125.00 delivered to you. I have some eyes checking out whats available at a factory or two but always love to hear your ideas. Remember, this is YOUR knife
Here is a pic of the official annual knives we have done so far
Luke, I'd love to see a congress with a Wharncliffe, spear, coping and a pen.
That was by Luke Grimm.

Oh, yeah, love that warnie.
good evening to all that have been writing, watching and exploring this discussion, most of you are very familiar with my style here on iKC and for those that don't let me a take 1 sec to talk about my philosophy. We are all in this together!
Be it knife Maker, Manufacture, Dealer, Collector or user. Be polite, respect one another and support those that support us, if and when you can. That does not mean buy only from our sponsors. It does not mean I WILL BUY only from our sponsors. I said if and when and that is what I meant.
Quick story. Last year I was approached and contracted for 50 knives by a customer maker and member. That maker did not fulfill but 1/10th of the order. With six weeks to the end of the year and feeling an obligation to our members I called a friend that supports iKC at every opportunity and said help me out. I owe this to the members. Queen cutlery and Ken Daniels made 50 special run knives. Knives he went out of his way to get as custom as he could and he finished in time, within our budget AND WAS HAPPY TO DO IT.
Do I personally feel we should be grateful for this YES!
Does Ken Daniels expect it NO! He will be the first to tell you, business is business. he knows the challenge I face with this yearly.
No company will tool up for 50 knives, it is not practical for them and i simply cannot justify asking you to spend 250.00 or more for a knife to get that done.
So let me say again. We either need to tie into a run being done and make it our own or we need to find a company with some excess stock they are willing to build knives with and make that our own. this is the reality of having 50 knives made. Someday we will be big enough not to have such a short run done but for right now these will grow into iKC collectibles because they are very short runs of unique knives.
iKC and a place for all knife folks to feel comfortable is my dream. I am grateful to each of you that share that dream. I cannot express what it means to me that so many of you CARE what our knife will be. Please know, I will do the best by you and by iKC. Is Queen the only company I am speaking with, no. Are they the only company watching this discussion, no. Will I spend many many hours at Blade tying this up, yes. Has the decision been made, not yet. I truly just wanted you all to be a part of choosing your knives. That means sharing with you anything proposed
If there are questions I have not answered, please let me know.
I will buy anything with iKC on it as long as I can reach the price point. Thanks, Jan for all the effort you put in this.
i think for the very first knife we had a 100 and possibly one other time . I will say in the past we have had every cooperation form knife production companies who seem to bend over backwards to help if they can. Whether it has been GEC, or Queen or Ag Russell, just nothing but professionalism and respect from them all. So whoever we get a knife from I am confident somebody will be more than happy to give us 50! And if at some point we went to 100 or more they would accommodate that as well. They are all customer focused... and driven to satisfy.
Well said JJ. When it comes to patterns there's some I like more than others and there's some that are my favorites but there's no pattern I really don't like. A well made knife in any pattern is a possession worth having.
Thanks Guys! Sorry for the rant
