Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I had a Leatherman Micra that I carried as an EDC with my Case Mini Blackhorn.  My daughter borrowed it and didn't return it.  Now it is lost.  But she bought me a new one.  She just came to me and asked me if I wanted her to give it to me now or wrap it up and put it under the CHRISTmas tree.

Should I have her give it to me now or wrap it up?

Wrap it up - she will be more happy with that.

Put it in your pocket. lol Its a pay back not a gift.

Agree with Ken, wrap it up and you will enjoy it more as you have to wait for it

  1. Ask if she actually used the Leatherman Micra
  2. Ask if she enjoyed using it and did it come in handy
  3. Have her wrap the package
  4. Get a gift tag
  5. When the presents are handed out and she hands you the package.
  6. Put your gift tag on
  7. Have it now read....a present from you to her

I'm with Lee...LOL. Into the pocket!

Well Charles....I just bought a knife...and the wife scooped it to wrap and put under the tree...arghhhh...so If your daughter is ok returning it then that is what I would expect.....BUT...it all depends how you feel about it... if they just had put it under the tree and didn't mention it then I guess you would have gotten a gift to replace the lost...but because they asked you then it is a replacement. My theory is you lose it or break it... you replace it with equal or better of what it was no matter how close you are to a special day...ie Christmas, Birthday, and so on ....people nor family like borrowing from me....lol...I wonder why!!!!

Take it now Charles. It's not a Cmas gift if she is replacing what she lost.

Wrap it up.  I think it will mean more as a gift rather than just a replacement.

Let it be her decision. That way you won't have to think about it and she does. Hopefully she will be more careful in the future and make a decision that you both will be good with.

Besides we all know how it goes when we loan stuff out, friends, family, neighbors or otherwise, it's the chance we take.

Personally I have never loaned a knife but many a tool has not found it's way home.

How old is your daughter?  As Data said it really isn't a gift she is replacing what she lost.  Many factors  enter into thr picture,  her age, her maturity, and how often she loses stuff, her financial situation.

Chances are if my daughter had lost something of mine and bought a replacement around this time, I'd tell her to wrap it for Christmas and she would most likely tell me it isn't a present, it's a replacement.  You'll be getting something else for Christmas. I would then tell her to wrap it up to me as gift from the cats and we'd call it deal.

(The cats are always giving members of the family things that found in the basement!  Last year my daughter got a Harry Potter Trivia Game she bought about 10 years ago and forgot all about. Hilarity ensued!)
