Barry Wood style folder

Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum but not new to anything else. I thought I'd test your knife knowledge. I recently bought at auction(cheaply) a very well made Barry Wood style knife. The one that the handles revolve open. No photos, sorry. This one has no markings anywhere on the knife. It has two smooth stainless rivets and a smooth stainless pivot. Here's the catch, the handle scales are almost black ebony. All of the Colt models are Micarta, as are the Frost copies. So the question is who made it?

Hello back again to add another dimension to this thread. Someone has told me the "Barry Wood style" folder is being copied in China. No mention of ebony handles, which is the crux of this inquiry. If my knife was made in China, gee I don't know because this is a well made knife. After playing with it for days its still tight and will shave my arm.

I believe Colt as well as Frost are all models made in China. If no stamp on the blade you have to assume China made. its hard to tell exactly because you don't have a picture. It could be an older knife where country of origin was on the box not on the blade. If you have no box, may be hard to match up unless you can find one identical on the internet. Just an idea though.

Thanks Steve, very sensible reply. You may well be right. Let's all be thankful for GEC and other new U.S. makers for keeping the tradition of American excellence alive. They face tough competition.

Yeah I think that is the original Jan and then a 'knock off" came out by possibly Colt, but I didn't think ebony I would think maybe a very dark micarta. Do you have a picture?

Sorry, Steve, I don't own a camera. I asked the same question on another forum and got back insulting responses from a self important member about my lack of computer savvy. Hopefully, members of THIS forum will be more forgiving. About the knife in question: I think the "Powder River" knives had no scales. Also it is my impression that Colt was licensed by Wood. I am tending to believe mine is Chinese in origin but, if so, for the price I paid a fun knife for my pocket.

No big deal, we actually have a lot of members who participate but don't have a camera, if you use one it can be more fun cause as they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Look at it this way no matter what... you did get a fun knife at a great price and that's always worth it in my opinion! Plus we learned a little bit too.

This Barry Wood was made in Japan and I think I paid $9.98 for this knife. On one side of the blade is says Valor, Miami, U.S.A. and on the other side it says 440 Stainless, 479, Japan.

This is the Power River Folder and I think I paid about $29.00 for this knife. There is nothing on the blade says who made this knife or where.
