Kent-

Only the first portion about the laws were a reply to you (about the folder larger than 3 inches in CA comment), the rest was just addressing everyone in regards to the knife discussion...i sent that long reply from my phone at jury duty so due to a small touch screen phone i could not name all the knives suggested to me and whom it was suggested by.

But you are right...BACK TO KNIVES!!!

The CaseXX knife you recommended was a good looking blade.

I agree about buying American made products...are there any other knives that would fit this topic that are produced in the USA?

Wayne-

The Silver Alox scaled Solo is a very nice looking knife. I'm going to have to go down to REI and see if they have one i can hold...do you own one? do you like it?

It's getting harder & harder to find American made knives but take heart, there seem to be a few new comers. Be sure to check out "Canal Street Knives"- they make some real beauties & I think one with a single blade but it might be too big.

I believe I saw it in a A.G. Russell catalog (www.agrussell.com) and come to think of it, check out the Buck Duke Buffalo Horn & Malachite for $159.95 (Item no. BU500BUF)-has a 3" drop point lockback blade. I would have bought it myself & I still might?)  Also check out "The Cutting Edge" for some upscale folders. They are an affiliate of Russell.

Also, "Great Eastern Cutlery" is coming out with some nice carbon steel blades including a Mini Lockback with a jigged bone handle for 2011. I found their website but couldn't find any prices on that one. As I've been told, this Co. was started by some of the original workers from the old Schrade-Walden Knives when they used to mfg. the Uncle Henry Golden Spike (5" simulated stag handle skinner) here in the USA.

That same skinner is still available but it's made in China now. I still have my original made in the US.

Usually, you can tell quickly if it's made here at home by the price tag but there ARE some really fine examples of cutlery made in Japan & Taiwan such as SOG & they ain't cheap either, brother.

I'm going to go broke if I don't stop buying knives, but hot damn, I'll have the best knife collection in the "poor house".

I have the Pioneer model and a Red nylon Solo. I like them both very well. I plan on picking up an Alox Solo sometime tho since they are getting cheap.

The GEC is made in the USA with USA products

I also think a SAK makes a good EDC.  If you're not looking for a lot of blades the Victorinox Cadet is a good choice.  You've got a decent blade and the small nal file, and the combo caplifter-screwdriver  will come in handy.  THe can opener not so much but the little screw driver on the can opener blade works like a phillips.   It's nice looking knife and no cop is going to consider it a "weapon"  Of Course TSA will!
Tobias- Please tell me what "EDC" means AND whom or what is "TSA"? Sorry, but I'm just not up on the lingo?

EDC= Every Day Carry

TSA= Transportation Safety Authority, the people at the airport who confiscate your nail files so they can sell 'em on eBay

Firstly I'll state that there is no best of anything out there! Why? Simple reason, because we have absolutely no way of testing ALL makes and models available, fitting your criteria--whatever it might be...Also, it is totally subjective to personal likes and dislikes i.e. I'll seldom recommend Spyderco--not because they make a poor product, far from it, I just don't like the opening notch on the majority of their knives.

Second, I'd suggest you read your knife laws a little closer as you can carry a folder over 3" e.g.belt sheath &/0r multi-tool and you can carry a fixed blade concealed i.e. in your backpack, or toolbox or in the bag where you bought it from to your house and yes those are considered concealed.

Check out makers like
Al Mar,
Bear & Son,
Benchmade--at least six,
Bill Harsey,
Boker,
Buck,
Chris Reeve,
Condor,
Emerson,
Entrek,
ESEE,
Fallkniven,
Fox,
Gerber,
Grohmann,
Hen & Rooster,
Ka-Bar--their Dozier Folder,
KAI-Kershaw and Zero Tolerance,
Knives of Alaska,
Mission,
Ontario,
Queen,
SOG,
Spartan
Strider,
TOPS--have at least five,
and especially CRKT
to name but a few of the companies to choose from.
I will chime in with my love for SOG knifes, and the flash is a great knife.  I also enjoy my Gerber Remix, Spiderco Cat, and the SOG Ageis Mini.  Check out a guy on youtube called nutnfancy, he does a bunch of gun and knife reviews and really enjoys the smaller, lighter blades.  Check out his EDC knife reviews.
Didnt say they were perfect, but i do like his reviews... they help me to see the knife compaired to others, and give me enough info that I can get a decent idea about the knife or gun.  To be fair his gun reviews are more through than his knife reviews.  Plus his reviews have gotten a ton better from when he started.

Joe,

Did you decide on what would work as a carrier for you?  If so let us see if a pic if you get an opportunity
