Hog asked me about the auction & he suggested I post this in the forum.

 

In general, I was disappointed. I though most of the knives were in pretty poor condition, nothing I'd buy to resale and certainly not to collect. I also thought the prices were high given the condition - all the early Remington's went in the $95 - $110 range.

I actually decided I'd bid on three, a 30's Remington, a 70's Ulster described as "a salesman sample that was never produced" and a 1980 New York Knife Co. 75th Anniversary, mostly because of the condition of the knives.

The Remington went for more than I'd pay. I took the "never produced" with a grain of salt but I was willing to pay $50 and it went for $110. I did get the 75th Anniversary (actually a limited edition Diamond Jubilee - but why split hairs?) & I'm happy with the price & condition.

The only other thing I bought was a 50's MARX pressed tin "O" train set in the original box. The cars are in great condition except for some broken couplers that I need to replace. I'll put it on my "to-do before sale" list and I'm sure I'll get around to it by, oh, July or August.

 

I see a lot of knives but I've pretty much ignored pocket knives  in the past. I think I'll start taking a closer look now that I have new friends here.  I'll always trade for something. P.S. I'm thrifty (read cheap) so I never pay a lot -larry-
