I prchase this 1850-1870 Pre Civil War  Knights Head Malitia NCO Sword from an antique dealer this week.  Should I restore this piece or leave it as is?  Looking for suggestions & comments.

Joe,

That is so much a personal preference.  I would say leave it as is.  I prefer the patina that nature took the time to create.  Donnie on the other hand would clean it up, he prefers the  shine and details

Leave it be.  To attempt to restore it would distroy any potential value that it may have.

If it had been a family piece, restoration may mean an increase in personal value but bringing it back to it's former glory.
