The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
I was just watching a certain knife show on the satellite TV and Todd Boone, was commenting that Colt was no longer making knives? Is he talking out of his you know what or is it true? Has SMKW stopped making Colt knives?

A quick search of SMKW's website resulted in 17 returns for "colt".
All but 2 were cheaper than dirt ..as defined by.. you'll pay more in shipping than the item itself.
Their current inventory is limited !!
That is interesting, I sent an email to Jay, maybe we can get some info back. Did it mention the Colt/Case at all? Is it still in full swing n the catalog?
Don't know.. I did read quite a bit in the forum.. There are some pics in there somewhere about the Usa made Colts. Beautiful knives!!
No mention of Case/Colt in the April or May catalogs. I don't have the March readily available. Both the April and May mention patterns that have been discontinued but doesn't come right out and say the brand is going away,
Well I did just hear from Jay
"We are still producing Colt product, just got some new knives in the other day."
I do think they are going to do a little change in patterns maybe but they are still producing :)
Hi Tobias,
Colt is still making knives but they are all made in China.. Blah!! The USA and Japan knives were nice but since then, all is junk!! I talked to a rep at Colt and this is the info I got..
LOL, I am surprised the rep at Colt would be downgrading their own product.
SMKW does indeed produce Colt in China, as they do the entire line of Rough Riders. While I agree the quality of the knife may not be what it was in the USA made form, I can also appreciate not everyone can afford a USA made Colt and the product is very good for its price point
Actually, The rep didn't downgrade The China made Colts.. I did.. I just told him what I thought about it .Such a shame!!!
I asked them that very question when I visited SMKW a coupla months ago, they kinda shrugged & said that "some" of the Colt patterns were "maybe" going away, so "get them while you can", (though I don't think the sales staff knew for sure to be honest). I have noticed that their catalog is continually stating recently that "some" patterns will not be available soon. So, if not the entire brand then some Colt patterns seem to be headed for possible extinction. Whether that relates to Colt's recent bankruptcy or not is plausible, but unknown from what I have seen. To add to the confusion, SMKW is currently promoting a 20% off sale on all Colt products until July 25. I jumped at the chance and got three knives; Black Bone Stag Barlow, Black Bone Stag Whittler, and a Genuine Stag handled Muskrat....all for well under $20 per, (with discount and shipping I got each of these knives for almost exactly $15 each). As many of you know, to get a genuine stag handled knife from any manufacturer for under $20 is a great deal on any day, and the fact that these Colts are very well made knives makes them an even better bargain, (IMHO). The Muskrat is truly a spectacular knife, (despite it's Chinese origins), and for less than a Jackson I won't worry too much if it gets damaged. A good knife is a good knife, and all the Colts that I have seen certainly qualify as good knives.
If this is Colt's last gasp then I would say snatch 'em up while they are on sale, if not the last gasp, then at least you get a decent knife at a truly bargain basement price, (not to mention the cool, magnetic-hinged, form-fitting boxes)
