Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I probably spend way too much time on eBay.  Or maybe I don't.  I'm curious if other feel a thread or even a discussion group about the trials and tribulations of buying and selling knives on eBay would be worthwhile or if it would just turn into a glorious flame war?

I'm thinking of a place to discuss in general terms some of the annoying things we run into plus some of the stranger posts we see.  For instance three words that annoy me to no end are "Reserve Not Met"

And then there are those people who sell "crappy knife with cool case"  knowing the word Case and knife will bring looks from people trying to find Case Knives.   How can legitimate sellers of Case knives better target buyers of Case knives?

Ebay is the online flea market for knife collectors and there is a lot of good knives sold on it.  But there are also disreputable sellers.  How can we warn new buyers without hurting decent merchants who made an honest mistake.  What do other think.  Is there room or interest for a place devoted to "Ebay for Knife Collectors"

I've started using "Gixen", a free sniping program. The pre-auction end bid time for the free version is six seconds. For $6 per year, you can get a variety of sniping times starting with three seconds and a maximum of 15 seconds plus some other stuff.

I did a trial run with the free version and it worked so well I upgraded to the $6 per year version. Both are cheap at twice the price. If you want to read all about it and/or try it, download the free desktop manager here: http://www.gixen.com/index.php

And no, I don't work for them. I'm just a satisfied user.

Jerry,

I have never used a sniping program.  Part of the fun of the win for me is being there to place my bids in the last few seconds.  I can think of times I would have wanted it in place though!

I completely agree with you about the fun of the bid. I figure it must be comparable to the kick some folks get out of playing slot machines...but when a knife you've been  searching for is ending and you know you won't have access to a computer, it's pretty sweet when you get home and check your purchase history and find you got it for a song....nothing worse than finding out you missed it and it went for about half of what you would have bid.  $5 in fees lasted me better than 6 months. I just used it to get Schrades Trail of Tears knife for under $89 ..and I was the only bidder..the last 2 that sold this August on Ebay went for $150 and $199. The E-Snipe fee was 90 cents. The picture is from Ebay.

Exactly as Doug said, there have been times when I was going out of town and/or for some other reason would not have access to eBay. There have been a few times when for one reason or another, I just plain spaced the ending of the auction and missed a great deal. Then there have been a few times when the auction ended at 0200 and who wants to stay up for that. I don't get any pleasure from the tension of an auction ending but that's just me. I'm glad I found Gixen.
