The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Been thinking about getting a Grinder and buffing wheel. Some lower dollar knives, with a little buffing would look really nice. I know that could hurt the value of a knife, but a $10 knife - shouldn't hurt it. For instance, I have about 5 TL-29's, paid 5-10$ for them. They are in real solid shape but the blades are black spotted, I thought with a little buffing, they would make greater carrys. Out to the farm of course.
I am looking at an 8" Grinder (on internet) from Lowes - I think it is a DeWalt for about $115,.
Any suggestions as to Grinding and Buffing.??? Any recommendations as to a Grinder??

Yes Ken, this is a great topic because of the collectors side and the users side. To put an old knife back in use is an asset, I think. I have taken old scouts and cleaned and oiled them for young campers. The knives had little collectability before or after my work. The girls were able to use them again.
Even a collectable that has minor work done, if it is represented that way cannot be wrong. To take a vintage knife on the other hand and do cosmetic work on it, to make it appear in a much more mint type shape and...{I say and} hide that fact for the love of money is, I feel, wrong.
Very well said Robert, and that's just how I feel about it.
A clean up is always good! I hope to produce a discussion or blog on the Forest Master I received from Charles through Stanley May. Stanley cleaned up the Forest Master and when you see it before and after you will be amazed.
I think a good start on this one..keep going!
Got my Grinder yesterday - cleaned up an old TL-29 today. Just learning but I think I am going to like it. Got into the stamping a bit so I have to be real careful about that.
Show us a picture, please. Where did you end up getting your Grinder?
Robert, I didn't say before, but I got the Grinder at Kiblers Lumber Yard, its China made, which I am not to crazy about, but it seems to work fine. I just got a 6" because I am just going to use it for small stuff. I paid $50 for it.
