Norm,

Cant see the good at this size, any chance you can blow them up with clarity?

Here are a couple more.

Thanks Norm, that gives me something to work with.  Let me see what I can find out

Found this from your entry on another site, just in case anyone needs to see full knife

Norm,

Still looking I know I have seen the Sherlock Holmes tang before, just trying to remember where

Interesting, the master tang stamp is styled to look like pseudo hallmarks.

Based on past experience, the R probably stands for Rostfrei (stainless) and the knife is probably of German origin. Chances are the markings are ID'd in Anthony Carter's book on German makers and markings (available through the Knife Magazine / Knife World Books website) but you'd have to flip through it page by page looking for the marks.

I would agree with Mark.  Definitely appears German and I know I have seen that stamp before.  The latest "re-edition" of Anthony Carter's book is excellent and now I'll have to check it myself as I am curious which one that is!

I sold the one with the "R" and pipe smoker on it. Does anyone know anything about the one with W?C on it. I have some old silver pocket watches and they use a similar marking system which has 3 to 4 marks. See attached photo. From the marks on the watch you can determine, year, region, and silver content. I know I may be comparing apples to elephants. But its all I have at this point.

Watches would be a whole different world.  Try this page to decode the hallmarks  http://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_marks.html
