iKC Member in Need Request #11 - Schrade SNOBOY Fruit Knife

The Need

Similar to my first request, please take a look at this and the other postings I have similar to this one and share with me what you know about it. My goal is to use the information you provide to properly market and sell these knives to get a reasonable sale price while letting the buyer enjoy the full value of the piece.

Schrade SNOBOY – What I Think I Know

This is what I believe to be true so far about this knife:

  • Schrade made these “marketing” knives for popular fruit and vegetable companies of the time – like SNOBOY
  • The knife pattern is not uncommon, but I am unable to find one on internet with similar scales or blade pattern.
  • Main blade edge is a wave serration
  • Tang stamp on obverse: “SCHRADE” over “WALDEN” over “N.Y. U.S.A.”
  • Tang stamp on reverse: “SS700” over “STAINLESS”
  • Acid etch on obverse blade: “WONDA-EDGE” over “PATENT # 2,825,968
  • I know the patent was issued as follows:

What I want to Know

Based on the bullet info above and judging the best you can from the photos, I would like to know the following:

  • What kind of folder is this? (frame type)
  • Estimate year of knife manufacture?
  • Are the scales made of?
  • Is SS 700 the model number or type of stainless steel?
  • Should I clean & polish it or leave it as is?
  • What, in your opinion, is the value of the knife?
  • What, in your opinion, is a good sale price?

Please feel free to ask me questions, request additional photos, or whatever in order to assist you in your evaluations. Please also feel free to correct my understandings with additional facts, as I want the best info I can get to support the sale.

Thank you for your comments and assistance – it is greatly appreciated!

The acid etch is not visible in the photo, but Wonda-Edge begins about center of the nail nick - in fact the top half of the letters of Wonda are cut off by the nail nick itself.

Lars-  It is a swell center sampler knife-- Schrade just called it a sampling knife- The Wonda-Edge blade was new in Schrade-Walden's 1961 Catalog-- Serrations are only on one side- other side has a flat edge--- BTW, this tidbit from a man who sharpened Schrade knives for them for free at knife shows-- Sharpen the flat side only-- That also sharpens the serrated side--Schrade describes the handles as marine pearl unbreakable plastic. Here is a link to a 1961 Schrade -Walden catalog which not only shows you knife but also talks about the Wonda-Edge-http://iknifecollector.com/group/knifechicks2/forum/topics/schrade-...

The tang stamp dates your knife from circa 1947-1973- The Wonda-Edge new in 1961. Therefore, your knife is 1961-1973.

SNOWBOY had been in business for 90 years -http://www.snoboy.com/history

SS700 - Is the model #.-- However, the SS does stand for Stainless Steel-- Schrade describes it as hi-carbon Stainless.

Here are some pics of the same knife in better condition that just sold for $20.65-- Yours, I would say $10-15

unique Wonda-Edge lars, I like it

Thank you John...as always, great details and info! Knowing the personal history of the family member who owned this gem originally, I can place it between 1961 and 1965. Thank you for your continued efforts on my behalf - i am grateful for all the assistance.

And Tim - I always get encouraged with your comments - Thank you!
