Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

My name is Garett Finney and I am a knife inlay artist for those who don't know me. I customize Case and Buck knives and my closest competitor is Painted Pony - Michael Prater.

I have originated a few designs that sold very well but there comes a point where I am running thin on design ideas. Really aside from squares, triangles and other traditional shapes there are the usual vertical and horizontal lines but beyond that I guess there are curves. Then it must be moving onto scenes and objects like cars. here's a few of my designs where i try to get out of the box.

Let me know what you all think about design ideas! I am all ears!

Well outside of geometry, certain shapes and pictures might be good. how comfortable are you in that?
If it's really intro-quite I would need to use a jewelers saw and that's annoying to me but with my bandsaw I can do pretty much any scrolling I need I guess. I'm going to try a simple desert scene soon but nothing too crazy to keep the costs reasonable. I'm trying to find some new designs that are nice but not too time consuming. Are there any designs you particularly like?

I've got a question, Garrett.

Is there a particular reason that you and Painted Pony work the bolsters like that?  Yours, however do have a nicer design.

Lots of reasons but I think the main reason is that I get to do more art and make the knife more mine that way. It takes about the same time to either engrave over scratches or remove all scratches. Sometimes a knife looks better engraved and sometimes not. I like the doctors knives plain
Don't know if you have tried it but that candy cane striping always seems popular.

Great work, they are very nice.

and where do you want to eat?  kinda the same delima

but nice work

LOL< JJ!  See Garett I am not the only odd ball

Have you thought about starting with a solid color silhouette against a colored background, like the dolphin

Actually I want to try a desert scene with cactus and mountains. That's a good idea with the silhouette. I may be turning into David Yellowhorse however hmm..

Hey David is  a great guy and does wonderful work.  you could do worse

He just completed a knife for each of the fifty states .....
I like that idea Jan. Also a circle with maybe a duck or a swan or a hog?
