The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
About 6 years ago I decided to finally get a nice quality pocket knife. Until then I think I never spent more than $15 for one. I had used Case and similar knives since I was about 10 when Dad gave me my first one. Of course I cut my finger to the bone within a week. A month later he bought me a hatchet! Made me wonder. :) Not really, we were in the woods quite a bit back then.
Anyway I have stayed away from the traditional type pocket knives because I was used to them and wanted to try something different. Of course my initial goal was to get ONE knife. The one knife turned into several. Not sure how that happened. Now I've had Gerber's, SOG, CRKT, but mainly I've gotten Spyderco knives. Recently I've liked knives I can take apart to make scales for them. About a year ago I started thinking I needed ONE knife in the "traditional" style. The "ONE" scares me and my wallet. :) My search for a Queen pocket knife ended up with me finding this site. I've read several threads and seen many pictures of knives and found it refreshing to see so many knives of different types and styles. Of the knives I've tried in these 6 years Spyderco are my favorite. The first thing that stands out is their eagerness to try different blade steels. I've also gotten really spoiled to one-hand opening and locks. When I cut my finger with my first knife it was the knife's fault. My knife is dangerous and my keyboard can't spell. I love to blame the equipment. :) I cut my finger because I was making an arrow (as 10 year old's do) and when I pulled the blade out of the wood it slammed shut on my index finger. A locked blade wouldn't have done that. See??? Equipment problem. Not my carelessness. :)
I've enjoyed this forum so far and expect to continue to do so. I just wonder if this forum will cost me as much money as the Spyderco forum has. I never would have bought as many knives as I have if it weren't for the constant bombardment of others getting new knives. Makes me want another one. I'm not complaining. I have always loved a good pocket knife. I just didn't know you absolutely had to have more than one. :)
Below is a picture of one of my favorite knives at the moment. Of course that may change in another moment or two. It's a hand made knife from one of the Spyderco forumites that was a gift. He made every piece. He didn't buy parts and assemble them. He ground the blade himself also. That's a skill I truely respect. It has G-10 scales and a 3 1/4" CPM-M4 blade and cuts like a monster.
Glad to be here and look forward to expanding my knife knowledge (and probably ownership). :)
Jack
PS
How can I put a picture here so you don't need to click on the name to see it? The picture should just be there I think. Thanks for any help.

Jack, I totally agree with you. As responsible people we are careful and attentive to detail. Anytime we become injured if has to be a design flaw, equipment failure, or defective product. Don't believe me? Call any attorney in a phone book and they'll happily confirm my findings. I have a particular knife that I have a law firm examining right now to see just how many parties I can milk...er...uh... seek just compensation from. I have only opened this knife about 3 or 4 times and every single time, I get cut. Coincidence?? I think not! There is definitely a problem. My attorneys have said they're going after the mannufacturer, for making such a dangerous product. The distributor for passing this disater in disguise to multiple outlets. And the retailer for selling it to me without any warning or precautionary statement. Even McDonald's puts warning labels on coffee cups that the contents are hot and may cause burns. This culprit is a dreaded 5 bladed Trapper. Who the heck needs 5 blades on one knife?? This smacks of an influence from Victorinox! But that proves my point! I've opened my SAK dozens of times and have never been assulted by it. I think my attorneys have a sweet chance of making me a billionaire!! I have posted a pic of this knife as a warning to unwary buyers. My attorneys think I have an airtight case and are waiting for a court date. I can't wait for vindication and have the 3 attrorneys to thank. Thanks Moe, Larry, and Curly!!

Are the tips supposed to be like this on a couple of the blades or is this another equipment flaw? :) As far as the question "who needs a knife with 5 blades?". I have another question. Why do I have to carry 5 knives with only one blade each??? :)

Well now Jack, it's always good to have a backup knife, and a spare knife, and a spare backup, and an extra in case one breaks, and... (oh no, that's what hooked me.)
LOL!!!!!
I don't know why I'm laughing........

Well Jack, the main reason I shouldn't laugh, as JJ knows, I have the same knife OCD that he has! LOL!
And we have a discussion about it......http://www.iknifecollector.com/forum/topics/edc-ocd
Well you know, you have to have one for each different chore. Ok really you have to have two, one to look at and one for the chore. Well and of course the chore may have different aspects so each chore could have two knives, which of course would actually be 4 knives. Then a different manufacture comes out with one in another handle and just a wee bit different (and it is really cool) so then you order two of those.
So when Noah was in the ark did he have two of every knife too?
Hi Jack Im far from traditional. Here is are a couple of links to my albums...
George, very beautiful work and knives. Not conventional is an understatement. :)
Noticed some kirinite. Beautiful. I've messed with that stuff and like it a lot. The first time or two I found it to be so easy to work with I removed too much material too fast. (insert sad face here lol). It's so soft to work with while when finished provides a great handle. Love it. Just gotta be careful with any power tool. I use a Dremel and even that scares kirinite. :)
I love the custom handle material. Looks like a combination of rock and wood (some of it). Or is it a material from outer space? :) Looks great.
