Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I think we need to get a jump on this, so those people who have to plan ahead to purchase one can do so.

Let us discuss and then lockdown a pattern/design, get it priced out and ordered. Buying a knife around the winter holidays is difficult for everyone.

My vote is for a jack/mtnman/barlow-esque pattern Large (or Medium)

Stag/Bone/Burl wood

One/two blades

I would prefer Carbon blades, but an exotic SS is fine.

Well , I am thinking it should be the elusive Mini coke bottle pattern........clip and spey blade ...black winterbottom jig...lol

I know that a fixed blade for the community knife would not be received as well, I have approached it before.  But for those of yo that were thinking of the Daniels workhorse let me know here

Miss Jan,

Where are we at right now? Spreadsheet wise, that is.

I would say that the only thing everyone here will agree on is that no matter what knife is chosen, there is no way to make everyone happy.  The group here is too diverse, which is good, but bad as far as finding 1 knife that everyone loves.

I'm rather new here, and don't know how the majority feel, but I'll speak my opinion.  I'm a knife collector, and therefore I like a knife that is unique, artistic, but sticks to more traditional style, and manufacturers.  I have always considered "Club Knives" as a collectible piece.  You can get EDC's at the hardware store for a dime a dozen.  Usable knives are just that, used, abused, worn down, sharpened, and eventually thrown out when their life is over.  I feel that a club knife is a badge of your membership, something that holds a little more meaning than an EDC, and therefore you are not going to deteriorate it to less than mint status.

I would prefer to get an awesome beautiful design/handles from a historic knife company to represent the club, and I'll use my old trusty rusty for scraping paint, prying staples, cutting boxes, and cleaning fingernails.  No offense meant to anyone elses opinions, as I said this is a diverse group, and I am most likely in the minority.

I agree with Carl Bradshaw

Carl, you are absolutely welcome to voice your opinion. In part I agree with you, I want a special knife, pocket jewelry some call it. I want something beautiful to sit next to my safe queens but have the "iKC" etch on it.

Talk of a Neck knife and tactical folders, got me down over the weekend as I thought about it. That wouldn't make it special in my accumulation of knives.

In my opinion a traditional pattern with stag or bone best describes the mature attitude of this site and it's members. Any knife with a blade less than 3" should be a folder and it should have a secondary blade with it. 2-3 finger fixed blades are okay, but not for a Forum knife.

But this is just one opinion. We have many to listen to and consider. So we trudge on until Miss Jan says "stop, time form a final vote committee" or something of the sort. The end result will be another knife in my collection.

"Back to scraping and prying isnt that what SAKs are for? That should put a price on my head."

Indeed! More blasphemous words have never been written! I cringed when I read this! Wash your mind out with soap and soak those evil fingertips in Simple Green! My SAK's are considered sacred and would never be subjected to the harsh conditions to which you have ascribed. I am shocked and appalled by this inference! (He said, with tongue firmly planted in cheek.) lol

I own some nice knives in my collection but to me my EDC is my most important. I use a knife everyday and I don't want some cheap knife to have to depend on. I am not saying it has to be fancy or expensive, just very dependable. It should have really good steel for its blade or blades, a work ready handle and not too small to get the job done. I know this is off the subject but when I heard Carl talking about an EDC that way I had to put in my opinion. No offence, Carl, we all use EDC's for different things. I get the message that you are making though, that the club knife be a bit more refined than most EDC's, and I agree. I think most of the members here all want that to, a really nice club knife.

DONT STOP!

Ya'll might think I am crazy but this is actually exactly what we are looking for. YOU, me and all the other members have one or two knives in mind.  This is the type of information I get a manufacture to read and they have an entire line of knives in mind.  They can look through all this and say, hey...this may be the one.

It is challenging when you are looking at a run of low numbers (50-100).  You try to fit into a knife they are already making and make it your own with materials, etch, shield...whatever.  You take two or three manufactures that are kind enough to read this and respond and you start looking at their ideas and reference back to ours.  Then you have your choices to offer back to the community and get enough commitments to purchase.

So dont stop...this is how our community knife is born!

I put that statement in about EDC's because I want people to realize that an EDC carries a lot of different meanings depending on the user.  For me, I use cheap $10 - $30 knives for EDC because they are severely abused, and I don't want to feel a bit of remorse when a blade snaps, or when I've sharpened it down to a barely recognizable blade shape.  I have a new one roughly every 6-10 months.  That's why to me, nice knives are collectible, and users are users.  And to me, a Club knife is always a collectible.  I have every NKCA youth knife from each year, and I've never carried any of them in my pocket.

LOL!  Carl you are a true collector!

There is a distinction.  Donnie does the cross between user and collector but I will only use one that he has already used.  I may even carry one of my beauties but if I dont have a user on me, I will leave mine in my pocket and use his

Bob, Carl, I really appreciate the rich diversity of valuable opinion within this our club.

Jan, I'm sure nobody thinks you're crazy! Thanks a lot for your so precious  involvement.
