The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
I'm in a knife slump! It has been a month since I've bought a knife and I didn't even take pictures and post anything about that one yet. (It was a Soligen made Swiss Army Style Korium "K" Knife. These were the precursors to the Royal Crest line of crap knives, I believe.
I haven't been posting much for the last couple months. It isn't that I am not interested in knives anymore. As a matter fact, I've been reading quite a few threads but haven't had anything new or relevant to add to the conversation.
I've also kinda-sorta run out of knives I want to buy! Well at least out of knives I want to buy that are in my price range! Rough Rider isn't really producing anything new in a pattern I like or want! I've got scout/camp knives galore and the few people are making new ones. There are a few older Swiss Army Knives I'm after but they are hard to come by. Same goes with my marlin spike knives and some of the older military issue knives. And then the toothpicks. Again the collection is pretty much complete. I've got the ones I've been looking for!
Sure, life has got in the way with kids fleeing the nest, father in law passing away and other turmoil but even before all that, I was running out of knives I truly wanted to have. I mean I've got close to 500! They can't all be my Favorite!
No doubt, part of the slump is brought on by the demise of Knives Live TV! The boys on the show kept me looking and thinking and wanting to buy. I seriously doubt Mr. Pipes realizes how many sales he lost when cancelled that show!
In any case, has anyone else fallen into a knife slump? I now know the meaning of "lost my edge."

I have slowed down a bit myself Tobias . I am mired in farm projects right now and just have to get done. No questio for those who watched KnivesLiveTV, that excitement and desire is gone. Always wondered if it has impacted sales for those folks. Maybe not, but who knows.
I notice knifemakers, some never make knives anymore and have gone on to teach others or just plain do something different. No question its a different world from 2009,10 or 11.
But on the bright side look at the up and coming knife makers that are learning from those masters!
There is some of that Jan. And we do have a promising young knifemker by the name of Noot who is making a mark. Would love to know more !
Same here.....With my car breaking down...and my interest mainly into making knives (although I love collecting em...all of my funds have recently gone into materials or tools)...
I haven't bought a knife a quite a while....and don't know when I will.
I'm ruined by the knife I made and picked for myself......I still don't know whether to laugh or cry about that.
Laugh so hard that you cry.

Tobias, I too, have been in a slump--As I get older, I tend to collect older knives-- Not so easy to find any more at an affordable price on a retiree's salary-(or lack thereof) . I still check IKC a couple times a day, but don't always log in if I have nothing meaningful to add. Throw in some recent health problems, and my posting has gone way down-- I still live vicariously when a new knife mystery comes along for me to research, but there are dry spells in that as well .Hadn't bought a knife in a couple of months--- When I started having withdrawal symptoms, I broke down and bought this pair yesterday at a local pawn shop for well under $20 for the pair--- Understand, these are WAAAAY outside my normal wheelhouse for collecting-- Both China made, and not worth but what I paid for them--- BUT--- They are both spring-assisted opening and fun to play with when I'm bored-- LOL
Pretty rainbow titanium. I was thinking about getting a rainbow tactical but I couldn't find one that was just right!
I'm still searching for the Rifleman Trapper by Rough Rider but that isn't even for me!
Tobias, just ask Charles for his--- I am sure he would be happy to part with his---NOT !!!!
BTW, the stilletto is rainbow titanium coated stainless steel--- It is purdy for $8 bucks
The Tac-Force is Carbon steel with Aluminum handles--Both fun to play with, but probably not much else--
WHAT! Are you telling me Charles finally found one? I can quit looking!
