Its always a good thing to see someone get into the hobby and understand what its all about. The joy of collecting keeps us coming back!

Donnie has wanted a pruner style in a custom knife for many years.  Somehow they are always out of our price range. This year we met a man named John Lloyd.  Everyone of the dealers that had seen his knives was making comments like "there is a guy over there with awesome knives, just layin' out on his table."  So of course, off Donnie and Sean went to take a look.  They must have been there quite some time while I was looking at Van Barnett's newest.  I received a summons to please come consult.  What I found was a family John, his daughter Jessica and  her son Lucas.  Nice to see families involved.  Johns knives have an old time feel and quality and appearance.  He did indeed have them laying out on his table the same way we would have Donnies EDC's laid out. I admire that he was able to draw a crowd of lookers without "dressing up" his display.  That tells you the eye catching ability his knives alone had!!  He would play a little with Lucas and talk knives with us.  Willing to share any info and even asked to hear the conversations while we were talking about one knife VS a different one.  He was active in our conversations and asked questions about what we would be doing with the knife and which one would fit the bill better. All told Donnie and Sean left his booth with three knives.  The one we purchased was along the price point of a good factory knife, and his work is CUSTOM.  We will be back to see his family and knives next year.  I am about to send him a link to this and an invitation to join us.  Without further rambling...here is the custom John Lloyd that came home to FL

I hope John comes and joins us here on IKC. That's a fine Prunner, his knives need to be shown to the buying public alot more.

Well I should have thought about the fact that we would have more members there on Saturday than Friday.  So we only had a few members show up for the meet and greet.  A member and knife dealer Greg Holmes with TSA knives wanted to be certain we have some give away items so he sent us some pens and a few drink coozy's about a week before the show.  To my surprise, the night before we left for the show he emailed me some gift certificates to his store to share at the meeting.  So here are our winners.  Zane, old enough to join next year from Melbourne FL heard about us from a knife nut friend and asked his Dad to come to the meeting.  Our own Robert Mitchell came all the way in from CA, thank you.  Spending time with current and future members was a lot of fun and we appreciate your making time in a busy day for us.

So many companies to look at and explore from the show.  I heard a great story and stopped to see the folks at the booth.  Right Nice knives and just fantastic people.  Thought I would share with you how they named their company.

"

"Years ago my Grandmother's Uncle lived up on a mountain in the hills of West Virginia. He lived there with his wife and children and farmed the land. He built a little shack in the woods where he would go from time to time to get away from it all. It was a little one room place built up on sandstone with rough sawn lumber that he cut down and had a local saw mill rough saw. He did all the work himself. He and a blind horse, yes a blind horse. No tractor and no power tools. He did all the work by hand. The roof was just over-lapped wood and all the walls had cracks you could see through. Nothing special, just a couple of windows and a door with a sign on it that said KEEP OUT. No running water, no electric, and no insulation or drywall on the walls. It truly was a shack. Well a number of years ago while out hunting I found this shack. It was in rough repair and was barely visible through the under brush. Being a youngster I just had to investigate. What I found was the remnants of what appeared to be just some old building. I had asked my father about it and he told me my great, great. uncle had built it, he wasn't really sure why. Years went by and my father and I bought the farm and the old shack was part of the property. I just loved going up near there to hunt, it just seemed to call me to it. Every year I would start my hunt from that place. A couple of summers ago I had asked my Grandmother about the old building up in the woods and she told me that her uncle had built it just to have somewhere to go. She said when her uncle would go up to the shack that her aunt used to say "There he goes again up to that Pout house." She said that's where he would go when she had scolded him for something. I don't know all of the story or if it is even all true. From that moment on we referred to that shack as "The Pout House."" L.T. finished the story.

"What a great story. He used a blind horse, huh? That would be a great name for a knife company!" Dan said.

Four years later ... their dream was realized and Blind Horse Knives is born!"
