Why is there a "dot" between the CASE and the XX stamps?

Hi Trent.Contrary to popular belief the tang marking system on fixed blades does not follow the same rules as those on folders .On fixed blades the USA period did start in 65 and end in 70 it carried right over until the Lightning S period which started in 1980 when dots did begin. The dotting system was not employed on fixed blades in the 70's, also it might be beneficial to note that there were also no periods used after the letters (ie.U.S.A.). As far as the dot on your boot knife to best of anyone's' knowledge it was employed as a spacer......All the best,Jim Johnson
Trent - the D0t between Case and XX is a real one of the many On fixed Blades look on page 351 in the 7th addition of Knives and Razor by Jim Sargent looks like it is a 1979 .
I think I have seen that dot between the CASE and the XX on some of the 1976 and 1977 stag set hunting knives. I do not have one to look at so if anyone does maybe you can post about it. That would mean that it was not intended as a "one dot" stamp but as a spacer. But I could be wrong.
I have a few 76 & 77 stag sets and no dots but I do have a few red letter 78 sets with two dots and a 79 Bradford set they put dots on. There little devil P51ssp has a dot there small game (523-3 1/4 ssp has a single dot as well as other fixed blade 79's . That leads me to assume that the dots started in 78
