Been thinking some of Pearl Handles lately and alot of questions come to mind

How are they made? Are there different types? What about the Smokey Pearl?

How about some pics of Pearl handled knives. I'll post some next week.

Jim, I will check those out when I get home. Looking forward to it.

I second that motion.

The gold lip is spectacular. Thanks for posting it for us to see.

2 Old Pearls: Robeson and Cattaraugus

Ken I'm not 100% sure, but that bottom knife looks more like a plastic type like an Acrylic or a resin than actual Pearl to me.

Alex, I'm not sure either, I always assumed it was a Pearl - maybe not - It is Cattaraugus - wonder what other materials they used on their knives - I think it was made around the 50's.

Ken, my first reaction when I looked at that knife yesterday was that it was celluloid. It didn't look like pearl. And, I have no idea what materials Cattaraugus used back then? I was just guessing about the celluloid.

I'd suspect Celluloid as well.

The # on that knife is 22162C - the fifth digit is the handle material - it shows in the book "French Pearl/Tortoise shell" - to look at the knife in person, you would say Pearl, the pic doesn't do it justice, it is a very beautiful knife - with that info, I am convinced it is French Pearl. But thanks for making me dig into it better, that's how I learn.
