here they are in the 79 catalog

Hello Ben and welcome to the world of knives... If by US production vs. China. It is pretty easy to tell. Schrade US knives will have U.S.A. and typically the model number on the front of the tang stamp. Chinese production will not have USA stamped anywhere on the knife blade and they will typically have the model number stamped on the back of the main blade instead of the front.

As the Schrade scrimshaw knives are not extremely expensive or rare and if you are worried about counterfeits of these. I have never seen any myself in about 15 years of Schrade collecting and most likely because their value is only about $50 each it would be unlikely the effort required is worth it.

I would say these are genuine and the catalog pic Jan posted above helps prove that out too.

wow thats awesome thank you for your information rick

No problem. These were the early sets...and were sold individually, one knife at a time. In the 80's they started putting them in wood boxes or you could by the sets individually and then when you completed it get the wood box.

There were about 1500 of each knife / set made. I know sets in the wooden boxes were all matching serial numbers, not sure on these '79 sets.

Ben,

Welcome to the knife collecting dream and iknifecollector as well! Those are, as stated by others, valid USA Schrade Knives. I have a rather large Sçhrade Collection myself amd I have many of the Scrim Shaw single knives as well as the sets that Rick referred to in the wooden boxes. Have you purchased theses knives or just thinking about it? If you are interested in any of the Scrim Shaw sets in the wooden boxes, I know a very reputable guy that has access to quite a few for sale. Just send me a message and I can get you in touch with him.

Again, welcome to knife Collecting and especially Sçhrade USA knife collecting.

Tom

well that brings up a bit of a subject, any thoughts out there on the values?

I am personally not a huge fan of Schrades Scrim Shaws as they really aren't Scrim Shaw....they are just hot stamped and inked. Having said that, I do have quite a few in my collection...lol

In my opinion, the large folding and fixed blade knives can bring up to $50. And the pocket knives and Barlows can bring around $35. Each. Keep in mind this is my personal opinion.

The sets in the wooden cases (1980-1996) can fetch $200-$250. On a good day.

Tom

Ben- a little more info on your Schrades -The Scrimshaw designs were all done by Frank Giorgianni-

  1. Frank Giorgianni is a very private person. He has not produced any other “production” artwork for any other firms. However, he has created countless “original” artworks in many forms including etching metals, scrimshaw on various articles, as well as traditional oil and acrylic paintings. With respects to the Scrimshaw line from Schrade, Frank Giorgianni created a scrimshaw artwork on a knife in 1975 for demonstration. The idea was adopted and by 1976, the first scrimshaws by Schrade were produced (two different artworks to be exact). Frank’s name or initials appear in most of his work, but some of his artwork did not have any form of marking to denote it was his work. Frank continued creating the artwork for Schrade’s scrimshaw line until 1992 when he retired. So, if you have a Schrade Scrimshaw produced between 1976 and 1992, you have Frank Giorgianni’s artwork. In addition, although he retired in 1992, Frank Giorgianni provided Schrade with some artwork after his retirement.  (The above info came from his youngest son.)
I did some research on recent prices around the web, and your 1979 versions are selling for $75-$125 currently, with the norm being around $80-$100. Nice buy if you didn't pay a bunch for them.

some things have came up and these have to go if anyone is intrested please let me know need to sell asap thank you

Doesn't the S.C.C. tang stamp indicate a knife made by Camillus for Schrade?
