The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Kevin - no, the other one.... here are a couple of links sharing the same content regarding the S&W Survival Knife series by Blackie Collins. The link to Fitzwillies.com has some excellent photos of the knives in the discussion, while the iKC link does not.
I own the models 6010, 6020, and 6030 fixed blades, while the others are on my "Gosh, if only I could afford that now" list.
Enjoy and be edified:

Yep. I completely concur on the placeholder concept.
My dad had a Case XX Folding Hunter (6265 SAB) when I was growing up. He used that poor thing a lot and then lost it, let someone borrow it, something. He did end up replacing it, but I am not sure he ever got to use it much at all. I do have that knife and treasure it despite that it is not the specific knife that I remember in his hands as I was growing up.
I am not personally familiar with the S&W knives, but from the looks of the photo, I have to agree with Lars in that he had good taste!
Oh man, I totally get that...the sentimental part. I have had to do that too...replace a knife for the memory. In my case, that fact that the knife isn't the eact one doesn't matter - just having a place holder with the same kind makes all the difference. And as far as I am concerned, hearing that this was your Dad's knife is all I needed to know - I think he had great taste! I am glad you were able to find a good one on Ebay to fill that void.
Thanks for sharing!
Hello Kevin - welcome to iKC - we're glad you're here!
Say...that's a right purdy S&W 6010 Bowie you have there as your avatar. I have one myself - absolutely love it. I see too that you have already jumped in and joined a group. Excellent! Feel free to snoop around and join as many as you want. Also, feel free to add comments onto threads that interest you - even if it's been a while since last visited. Nothing more fun than kick-starting an old discussion and breathing new life into it.
And if you have quetions, feel free to ask. There's always someone loitering around that can help out. Looking forward to you sharing the knife love... :-D
