It has been a while since I have been able to get on here, much less got a knife show. So when I actually had a weekend off work, and my wife allowed me to go to the gun and knife show I was ready to find something new to ride in my pocket. As many of you may have seen as to what normally rides with me, I like the larger tactical folders. I looking at some Kersaws, some CRKT's, Tops and for a Camillus 9.75 tanto. As I was walking around I came to a booth that had a going out of buisness sign. While fondling some knifes and talking with the lady at the booth she said her and her husband had just gotten to old for this, sold their store, and now were getting rid of all of their stock. They had the best prices for any knife of the show, and a wide variety of older knifes that they found while cleaning out their stockroom. I found one that perked my intrest due to its interesting design in the handle.
I knew it was a Junk Yard Dog 2, but due to it having grey G10 handles and just a satin finished blade, I wanted it because it was different, and the tag on it was reduced to 70, when its usually sold for 90-140. When I told her I wanted it she said since it was the last day of the show she would do half off. I was happy with my purchase and went on my way and headed home. When I got home and started playing with it i noticed some writing on the opposite side of the blade that I didnt pay attention to when playing with it at the show.
Needless to say, I was quite surprised when I saw this and have proudly had this riding in my pocket since buying it. It is a wonderful blade. Came out of the box able to shave with ( I tried and work rather nicely). Since then i have used to to cut some cardboard, vegetables, and a few other things. Even after that it still has a razor sharp edge and is now one of my favorite knifes I own.
Kit,
'Now that is a DEAL! Not only a good price but a great story to go with it. Cant believe you did not notice the numbers right off, but then we collect some patterns by number. Therefor my eyes are trained to look for it. It just takes that one little surprise to turn a great knife deal into the best buy in the collection. Very nice to see you here, looking forward to seeing the next precious piece :)
Right after I started collecting knives I was going to every yard/ garage and estate sale I could find. I had read that these places can yield some very unique finds in unlikely places so I was trying it out. I went to a street sale where about 10-12 houses on the same street were having sales.
I looked on the few tables one house had set up. No knives of any type. The lady asked if I was needing any help. Being polite I asked, "Do you have any type of knives?" She looked at another lady standing with her and sadly replied they had no knives. A man standing in the driveway chirped up, "WAIT! I have one in the house". He ran inside and 5 minutes later he emerged crying, "I found it". He walked up to me and said his grandmother had it sitting in a dresser drawer while placing it into my hand. My eyes looked down and saw a sight which took my breath away. I tried to remain calm and not hyperventilate or start sweating. I casually turned it over and over. I started opening blades and looking for tang stamps, markings, dates, and so on. He asked me if I was interested. I tried to sound indifferent by saying it's really not what I was expecting (I was telling the truth) to find. I asked how much he was asking. Now we get down to the rat killing! He said "What will you give me for it?" It was time to pull out the all too familiar, but true in my case, response. "Sir, I am very new to buying knives and I honestly don't even know what it is worth". He asked how much I would think it's worth. I didn't answer but again started looking it over, opening and closing blades. I said, "What would you ask for it?" Now he started getting nervous. Finally a response in my favor!! He said, "Would you be willing to give me five dollars for it?" I said nothing but kept examining it. I finally looked up and said, "I guess five dollars isn't going to kill me". I reached in my pocket and took a five dollar bill from it's designated area. I keep 1 bill of each denomonation in each pocket for bargaining purposes. I handed it to him and started talking. He told me his grandmother came from Germany and brought everything she owned. This was one of the last things she had tucked away when she died that she brought with her. I'd love to know the personal history behind this knife!! Why did she keep it so long? What did it mean to her? And probably most important, how did she come by it?
I slipped the knife into my pocket, said thank you and started casually walking to me vehicle while in my mind I was trying to make a clean getaway. I've learned a lot about this knife from people here. It is circa WW1. I've learned it's a Propoganda knife touting the figures displayed on it. The faces are all of political and military leaders of Germany, Austria, and Prussia during WW1. It's a multi blade knife like an early Victorinox. Each face has the name printed around it which makes the research easy. It is probably my favorite knife out of my entire collection. I hope you like it too.
This was an actual gun find. One Saturday morning my son and I were shooting at a local outdoor unsupervised range provided by the Game & Fish Commission. We were shooting on the 25 yard range. A gun case was laying on a shooting bench a couple of benches from where we were shooting. There was no one around that bench. When we were ready to leave, I asked a couple of fellows at the other end of the range if it was theirs. They said no. I then opened the case. In it was a Mossberg bolt action .22 rifle with a 6-18 power scope on it. I figured it was someones target rifle. I took it home with me. The next Monday I stopped at the Game & Fish Commission office on my way home from work. I was telling a game warden what I had found. The secretary sitting near us said to me, "Oh, you found the gun." I said, "Well, I found a gun." She then said the fellow who left it had called and said it was the second time he had left that gun somewhere. He said, "I think it is the Lord telling me I don't need it. If anyone reports finding it, he is an honest man and deserves a reward. Tell him it is his. Merry Christmas!"
Now that is a gun find and a man that believes. Well it is a great Christmas present!
That's a really great story Charles! Sounds like it was meant to be in your hands. Can you tell me what model number the rifle is? I bought an old Mossberg 46B and made a great target rifle out of it. With closed sights, I could split cards and light matches on the 25 yd. range.

I was at a flea market in Tulsa when I found a guy with a lot of quality knives at good prices. I started looking and he started pricing. I told him to stop and I would make a pile then we could discuss the price. I made a pile of about 10 knives. On the way home I was pulling them out and looking at them when I noticed the serial number on this one.
Nice one Lee!
Let's see, "a great knife/gun find"?
Well, a couple of weeks ago I was wandering through a knife dealers display of knives (yeah, it was online, so what), and there it was! A Case 63032 that I hadn't seen for sale anywhere else! So, I grabbed it and ran (figuratively speaking) to the check out! A 1st Run to boot.......
I can't tell you what model it was because I traded it away and I don't remember. It could have been a 46. I did take the 6-18 power scope and put it on my .223. And I still have the hard case it was in.
I grew up hunting with a Mossberg Model 44USb. It had a bull barrel, weighed nearly ten pounds. It was a military training rifle. It had micrometer adjustable rear peep sights with three interchangeable front sight posts. We are pretty sure my brother's ex son in law stole it but we could never prove it.

That's a shame it was stolen. The 44USB's were truly a great target rifle in 22 caliber. I used a Redfield micrometer rear sight and a Lyman front sight with 5 interchangable inserts on my 46B. I also used to shoot the M-1 Garrand in matches and DCM shoots. Sounds like we have similar tastes in firearms too.
