The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
I just picked up this small bowie type hunting knife. It looks identical to a Kutmaster but with a different name etched on the blade. The scales are stag, or bone stag not plastic. Any guess when it was made and was it by Utica Cutlery? And who might it have been made for, ie specific store or generic? Thanks

Hmm, so no ideas on the "Sport Champ" name? Must be super rare then. lol
Michael--Been doing some serious digging on this and haven't found out much-- Sport Champ is apparently a still unknown retailer, either a hardware or sporting goods store.-- What I have found out-- A Sport Champ shotgun is a trade name gun made by J. Stevens Arms and Tool Company (J. Stevens Arms Company after 1920) for an unknown retailer in the period 1914 to 1942. Stevens marked the proprietors name on the shotgun, rather than their own, just like your Utica made knife. Here is a pic of a Stevens shotgun with a very similar Sport Champ marking.
Michael-- look at the M in sport champ on both the knife and the shotgun-- I'm pretty sure both were made for the same retailer. The M is kind of distinctive
John, good detecting. The M is the same and the S is very close too, being in the graphics business Id say they were both trying to be the same logo. Now whos trade name is it, Iwonder if Stevens collectors might know? I wonder how long they used the name.
