i have a small 2 blade kabar that had numbers written on blade in blue ink.
i oiled the knife and the numbers started coming off so i cleaned them off.
now i wish i had left then on there.
i wrote them down and misplaced the numbers.

I actually have this knife I have had in storeage for many years.
No real idea of its age, but I'd guess at least older than 1970.
Clean, with a patina on the blade, and one small area on end
where it was hit or hit something. Operates smoothly and nothing
is wrong with the blade.
Doyle, this knife dates to 1923-1951. The handles should be redwood if so the model # is 31187. The handles in the pics appear to be composition which does not make sense, Ka-Bar did not make a compo knife with a large case "KA-BAR" only a small case"Kabar" that model is 51187 dating from 1951 to 1970's The mint book price is 325.00 for the 31187 and 100.00 for the 51187. Of course I always start at 50% of mint book value and work down from there. Assuming the model is the 31187 older swell folding hunter I would value the knife today at 75.00 to 100.00 assuming the pics show the knife accuratley. I would be interested in the knife for my collection for 35.00. I try and never pay more than 50% for what I can get out of a knife. Of course there are those rare momentss that I just have to have it and I get a little wild. I dont have much luck selling or trading large folding hunters unless they are the knarly stag that Ka-Bar is famous for. I hope this information is helpful, John Hall
P.S. if it were an older Ka-Bar stag (Union Cutlery) it could run upwards of 300.00+ and the one I would go "wild" for is one with a union razor tang stamp.
