The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
I have started getting these warning labels in knives that I have ordered. I have now gotten them in three or four knives, all Rough Riders. The first one was in my Glow Trapper. I assumed it was because of the radium to make the knife glow in the dark.

But I have now gotten two or three others that weren't glow knives that had the same warning label in the box such as my RR Apaloosa trapper.
Has anyone else been seeing these warnings in knives? And I wonder what the substance they are warning about is?

Brad, My family is here visiting and we were laughing last night that every building in California must have a warning on their doors. Sorry buddy, it is sad but true
DLKG, I just cannot wrap my mind around what a knife could be made of that was not on the list. Although I am glad folks have the opportunity to decide whether or not they want to buy something with the sticker, does anyone really think the folks selling cocaine are posting the label on the product?
I really didn't feel like I targeted anybody. I don't think anyone can deny that California as a whole is a very liberal state. Maybe the most liberal state. And I know that many companies have left California because of their liberal rules and regulations. My sister-in-law used to live in Colorado Springs. On one of our vacation trips out west we visited them for a few days. At that time they were having a housing shortage in Colorado Springs because so many companies were moving to Colorado from California. All the new people coming in were creating a housing shortage.
I can't deny that I am very conservative. Most liberals would probably place me somewhere to the right of Attila the Hun. I am on the opposite side of the fence from most liberals on most every issue. I am a Christian, pro gun, pro knife, pro individual rights, pro individual responsibility, anti abortion, anti big government, anti welfare state, pro freedom, pro capital punishment. I could list more but I think you get the idea.
But I have always been able to get along with people even though we disagree politically. As the saying goes, we just agree to disagree about some things.
Jan, I think you have hit the nail on the head. Just about anything made probably has something on that 24 typed page list in or on it. If we adhere strictly to labeling everything that has anything on that list, then probably every building in the country would have to be labeled. And just about anything made would need to be labeled. And once everything is labeled, then nothing is labeled because the label becomes meaningless.
One fault with that list is that there is no rating of the danger any substance on it presents. I am sure that all of those materials are not equally dangerous. Some such as arsenic will kill with one sufficient dose. Others probably have to be consumed in large quantities over long periods of time. There is some pretty common stuff on that list. Aspirin, wood, salt, to name just a few. The labels might be more help if they listed the particular substance involved.
I have seen these labels now on knives and other things. But I ignore them. Why? Because they tell me absolutely nothing about how much real danger I might be in if I use the product. Do I think that knife presents any real health danger to me (other than if I cut myself with it, which I have done.) No.
BTW, I understand marijuana is legal in California now. Marijuana smoke is one of the things on the list. Is the marijuana being sold in California labeled?
