Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I asked that question many times myself before we packed up one weekend and headed to Track Rock Ga.  I have to let you know this is the only one I have been to, it is twice a year and it is free to go to and learn at, so I am not sure about how they all work.

A Hammer In is where you can go heat and beat on steel regardless of your level or age.  At Track Rock, kids get priority for anvil time and I know at least three that started here at age 7.  One builds knives for a living, one is the youngest member of the GA guild (while in High School) and the third one just got a grinder and forge at home.  This Hammer In is designed to spark the interest in learning to make a knife the old way.

If you have ever wanted to take a RR spike and build a Tomahawk, use spring steel to make a knife...find a hammer in near you and spend some family fun time learning.

This young lady came last year and Donnie gave her a blank that became this knife.  This year ?  No blank for her, "give me a hammer please" !

Josh is one of the three mentioned above and he loves his coal forge!

The coal forge works well for him and he can produce some amazing knives with it

One of the things I appreciate about this group of gentlemen is that the teaching and learning is not just about the guests.  Fridays are usually a tad bit slower and it gives the makers a chance to learn from one another.  The sharing of knowledge never ends for three days with these guys

All in all it is a blast!

a Lot of work!

and creates some beauties!

so like I said, find a Hammer In near you and have a day of being a blade maker...you will not regret it

I'm in love and can't even see the blade...

JJ,

I took that pic just for you LOL !!  Those frictions are made by our member Jim Hamer

Every day is a learning experience at a Hammer In.  Today I watched 2 young men work on a coal forge.  They were not making knives.  They were making cable damascus.  Now they have done this before so it was good to see it done first hand

The ladies got their time in today and getting grinding lessons with Andy Roy from Fiddleback Forge is a is a plus in anyones book

This young lady came set for the day, she knew what she wanted to make and found herself a great forger and instructor in Scout!

well now, you knew I needed to get a pic of it open just to make JJ drool a little

Just before the lunch break we took a moment to be grateful for the abundance of the day and get a group shot

Aside from just watching the youngsters making knives, I love to look back over these pics and see their faces.  From at the forge to hours later the fun and pride is evident

For us, those faces are what it is all about.  Some of the young ones, this is their first knife (even if a bit small).  Think of the stories they can tell later on in life !!
