Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I asked that question many times myself before we packed up one weekend and headed to Track Rock Ga.  I have to let you know this is the only one I have been to, it is twice a year and it is free to go to and learn at, so I am not sure about how they all work.

A Hammer In is where you can go heat and beat on steel regardless of your level or age.  At Track Rock, kids get priority for anvil time and I know at least three that started here at age 7.  One builds knives for a living, one is the youngest member of the GA guild (while in High School) and the third one just got a grinder and forge at home.  This Hammer In is designed to spark the interest in learning to make a knife the old way.

If you have ever wanted to take a RR spike and build a Tomahawk, use spring steel to make a knife...find a hammer in near you and spend some family fun time learning.

This young lady came last year and Donnie gave her a blank that became this knife.  This year ?  No blank for her, "give me a hammer please" !

so here is my thought for the day.  Find some hammer in fun near you and take the family for a day.  This is what memories are made of

So, after reading this thread and talking to Jan I got a bee in my bonnet and searched out a hammer in in my area.  It wasn't too easy to find, because they call it Pound of Fun instead of a hammer in, but about a week ago I met somebody that's running one about a half hour away from me.  I got my two oldest kids signed up, so in June we're going to get to go and make some knives.  They are also having a knife throwing demonstration and class, but I've hammered knife safety into my daughter to the point that she gave the man a dirty look when he mentioned throwing knives.  Even after I explained it to her and showed her some YouTube videos she's still not convinced that that's anything she wants to be around.

Cory,

That is fantastic and I hope to hear how it goes for the family!  I had a chance to speak with Carl this week and this is what he shared with me

after covering expenses and tipping the caterer I was able to send a $700.00 donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on behalf of Trackrock Hammer-in Spring 2016. !!!  I can hear the anvils ringing!!
