Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I just got a nice old fruit knife. It was given to me as a gift from my daughter who lives in England. It has a pearl handle and some hall marks. A lion, stands for England, I gess. A crowns is a symbol for England. TM is the maker's mark and means Thomas Marples. But there is a hallmark that I dont known what it does mean: 5
Does some one can help me on that?

I correct myself: the crown is the city mark - Sheffield

I know some were marked by the silver inspector or what ever you call them. Could this have something to do with the weight of silver?

Hi. The lion is the symbol for sterling silver (.925), the crown is for Sheffield. The last mark is the date mark. These were typically letters inside different shaped shields. If you can post a photo of the mark that will help to pinpoint the year.

Wow guys, this is interesting.  I would love to see a pic of it

I would to Miss Jan, I tried to give a quick answer so that someone would have responded to his request, but Smiling Knife has so much more knowledge than me on the subject. He really gave alot of good info but "Pedro"needs to give us a picture to help to continue with more info.

I m travellig so I cant send right now the picture of the knife. I ll send it next friday, ok?

I`m travellig so I am not able to send a photo of the knife right now. I`ll do it nex friday, ok?
