Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Its been crossing my mind alot lately about what to do with my collections. Esp. Knives.

Lets just say for instance:

you have about 250 Knives.

And 8 Grandchildren.

Would you put aside certain ones for certain children? or would you sell some and cut down your collection?

or would you just not think about it right now because you have maybe 20 years left?

Maybe you would do nothing and let someone else worry about it? haha.

In my safe, there are knives for each of the kids and grandkids and Bruce Voyles phone number

No grand kids, but both my girls will have mine.

JJ,

You need to hang around and get the grandkids!!!

Honestly Ken, The kids would have no idea what is there, nor how to get the value of them.  With as many as we have, the best thing for them is to have the name of someone I know will point them in the right directions

Jan, do you have those knives in separate boxes? or how are they kept for each of the kids.? Do you have other things set apart for the kids also along with the knives?

I'm not planning on going anywhere anytime soon, Jan.
Hopefully they'll wait a spell before any grands show up.

I keep an excell sheet. On that excell sheet I note:

Brand, model, handle materials, steel type, year bought, year made, price paid, estimated value

I just want my wife (or my kids) to make sure that they know what they've got once I'm gone. Now I'm no old geezer....but just in case I make sure all this is available. My wife knows about that as well.

As for knives for the kids....by the time they're old enough I'd rather pick something cool for them WITH them instead of chosing for them.

When my son is old enough (in a year or so) I'll probably pick a nice knife with him that he can use when we go into the woods and such. When he's older we'll pick out a nice high quality EDC.

My girls have already decided who gets what with my PAUL collection. With those it was easy, they're pretty knives. The rest, don't know yet.

I thought my 2 Grand Kids could split the knives in half. Keep what they wanted and sell the rest.

Ken,

Yes there are other items in there for them.  There is a pocket watch for each of the kids and we have the knives they will get in a baggie with a piece of paper marking who's is whose.  The baggies are not sealed and there is no celluloid involved

So Jan, is there only one box and the items are in that box labeled for who it goes to? or maybe they are all in the safe. I have been thinking of getting 8 boxes and sort things for each Grandchild.????

Does anyone have ideas on this?

I think the biggest thing is cataloging the knives with their history and value. I know I need to do this because some knives are very valuable, while others are not. Just not sure how to tag them. You won't want one child getting all of the most valuable, while the other gets the cheaper stuff.

Thats a good point Robert. Thats why i thought of having 8 separate boxes.
