Daniel,

What is your preference is steel, carbon or stainless?

Well I believe one of the best sod buster knives are made by G Wiseman...but at around 400 dollars and change...well I guess it is up to you how much do you want to spend....the Country Cousin knife from Queen is very nice and at the price tag of around 33 dollars...mise well buy 2 or three...they have d2 steel...which I believe is really good steel...so the options are there that is for sure...have fun searching

carbon is good steel but you cant use it on food its leavse taste of metal oxy

I think it would be better to buy d2 or stainless

I believe that the tastes are from...the cleaners that you use on the knife verses what the knife is made from or the grill top, frying pan, or stick that you cooking with....Carbon steel knives have been used for centuries...that is why...we cook the food!!!....if you are worried about ''Metal oxy''...maybe use a ceramic or plastic knife!.....and I better throw out all my knives....NOT!!!.....lol

Daniel,

A sodbuster type knife would not be my choice of food prep knife but if you use your EDC for food on the run, like apples and pears, then Indian would be correct in that what we use to keep our carbon in good shape would be the cause of the taste. Try a Food Grade lubricant.  they are out there

If you are looking for an alternative, my choice would be the D2 Country Cousin by queen

  • Brass Liners
  • Skinner D2 Steel Blade
  • 3.625" Closed Blade

Bear and Sons makes a reasonable one in stainless

German Bull makes one that would be nice also in a stainless

Too bad you worry about the Stainless thing. A.G. Russell has a great american company and they have some of their stuff made in China. Among which this amazing  "Sodbuster" type knife:

Case has one out with bone handles I think they are super nice. I will see if I can get some pics up tomorrow.

In my opinion, it's hard to beat a Case Sod Buster. I used to carry a Sod Buster Jr. for years.

LOL, well I didnt mention the Case because he mentioned sodbuster I assumed he had though of that option.  Didnt see the forest for the trees I think

There's a lot of choices in Sod Busters nowadays, that's for sure. Everyone will probably have their favorite to recommend.

Randall, I STILL need to get that Amber Bone Case Sod Buster! Yes Paul, I promise to get one someday! LOL!
