Stamped on the smaller of the shorter of the two blades is: "W.H. Morley & Sons-Germany" This excellent condition pearl handled little knife has single snap blades. Very little, if any, sharpening is evident and no cracks. Over the years that I've been collecting, I seem to find more foreign made manufacturers than U.S. made ones such as Queen, Case, Schrade, Buck, etc. etc.Could it be that U.S. makers were importing knifes to broaden their selection...perhaps labor costs had something to do with it.

W.H. Morley & Sons-Germany knives date to circa 1913-1927.This was yet another of the trademarks of Adolph Kastor & Bros.of NYC.,a major importer and wholesaler of cutlery. Morley knives were retailed through Hibbard,Spencer, Bartlett & Co.of Chicago,IL, a major hardware chain which later became True Value Hardware. Morley knives are rated as medium on the value scale. Don, you are correct in that Solingen, Germany had surpassed Sheffield, England in efficiency and lower costs as of the 1880's,which made them attractive to importers of knives. In addition,in the early 1900's,many doubted US steel was of the same high quality as the cutlery made in Sheffield and Solingen, so it was actually considered a selling point to advertise them as English steel or German steel..

Right on the money John!  Nice liitle knife find Don!
