I'm lucky, I guess, my father was a horse breaker by trade and worked on a ranch many years. He always had a good knife on him and that never has changed. My mother never got involved in that situation neither. She never said anything about me having a knife.
My grandfather gave me my first one at 4 years old. My dad taught me to sharpen it and use it like any good tool should be used.
I had many friends that never could get a pocket knife and that really amazed me. They had pens and pencils, paper and binders....how could they not have a knife?
I will say I am very lucky to be raised the way I was raised.
When I was a kid it was absolutely verboten to carry a knife. Why do you need a knife? Knives were only found in the kitchen and only hoodlums carried them. Looking back it was like the Dark Ages in history.
Boy were my parents surprised when I told them I had a semi-automatic pistol (I think I was 15). I really thought they were going to have a stoke and die in front of me. "Gee Ma don't worry....I don't have any bullets,,,,,see it's missing the clip"
