The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Good morning!
I recently acquired a new (to me) gen 1, Crooked River (15080-1).
This thing is a bit bigger than I had thought, but is in real nice shape. Being as I bought this 2nd hand, I inspected and researched this ad nauseum beforehand to do my best to ensure it's authenticity.
After receiving it, I am still believing it is the real deal.
Now my question to you is this: it is not a limited edition, and not any sort of special run. Sure it is a Benchmade, but nothing more than that. The hinge pin ring and back spacer are orange.
While that is 'fine', I am seriously considering swapping it out for something ... well, more me.
Anodized aluminum or titanium, treated metal (blued or whatever), wood, a different color plastic, even stone.
At this point I think I will have to get new hinge pin rings from BM, but the spacer, I should be able to make myself. I have the spacer all modelled up (precisely), so getting it cut, or transferred to a new material should not be an issue at all.
The front bolster is anodized a darker grey than the current gen2s. (I think I like it better darker, actually)
What color, or material for the spacer, do you see as taking this knife up a level?

I have the spacer modeled up quite accurately and precisely. Now I just need to make a decision on:
Yes, I am aware that this is a highly personal and probably opinion based idea. But I am really wanting to get as many thoughts on this as I can.
I am even tossing around the idea of making the spacer a three layer brass and vulcanized fiber spacer (black) material laminate. Pretty much any material is on the table. So bring on the thoughts!
Of course now that I have it modeled up in the 'current' state, I can make revisions to the outside shape. Different shaped notches etc.
