Unknown Case Pattern

I have a Case knife that looks like a Congress pattern with a slight arch, but has two blades like a jack knife. It is a Case Tested XX era knife and measures 3 3/4" long. Any ideas on pattern?

That's a real shame! People that make fakes should be put away for a LOOONG time!!!!

Thanks Blades. Too bad during my grand entrance, I tripped over the threshold. LOL! I just feel bad for the lady I'm trying to help with selling these knives. The worst part of it, her late husband had about 50 Case Tested XX knives. I went back over a lot of them last night and I'm sorry to say there are other fakes. Some glaring ones, mostly by just looking at the tang stamp. Others are questionable. Really makes me sad for her. According to her, he would get his collection out, shine them up, oil them and be so proud of them. At least he will never know he was had. I think he bought a lot of them on eBay. Not sure what to do at this point. If they were mine, and I knew they were fake, I'd probably scavenge the useable original parts off, and chuck the fake parts in the trash. Being in the picking business, I loathe fakes. Some are very obvious. Others I've seen were done by very skilled craftsmen. Why they don't use their skills for an honest business, I will never know.

In everyone's experience, was there any slight variation to the Case tang stamp? For instance, if you look at the tang stamps on Case's website, and look at the fourth one down on the left side, the little start of the C has a small, curved mark before making the C. Some of the knives I am looking at, this little start of the C is straight up and down...vertical. Do all tang stamps match the Case website exactly or are there slight variations?

Here is a similar picture of what I'm talking about. You can see the slight difference, but does that difference mean it is fake?

jacobh if the tang stamps are drawn by hand i wouldnt count on them much... what you need us the same bok mark was talking about "Counterfeiting Antique Cutlery" by Gerald Witcher

this is not a one time book.you will use this the entire time you collect knives!!!...i guarantee you once you have this book you wil spend days looking over the knives you already own!!...im serious.

i love the COVER ,,showing the kinife being taken apart on top of the money...LOL!

and with tang stamps if their is a little wrong their is a lot wrong!... think about it like this... it simple.. you have a stramp made for a bade...over and over it gets the stamp... why would it change?.. why would all of a sudden in one stamp the A in CASE jump so close to the S its touching it,,,,and the very next tang stamp its back ty=o normal??? do you see what i mean.the stamp would have to be changed for that one knife...NOT GONNA HAPPEN!... an doesnt happen ,,and didnt... so if something is wrong..look for more wromg and walk away...

FAKE KNIFE MAKERS ARE THEIVES NOTHING MORE THEN COMMON TIEVES WHHO STEAL BY DECEPTION...WHICH IS A FELONY!!!

I guess at this point the best you can do is get the genuine knives together , make double sure that they are genuine and go about grading them and coming up with a fair price. Knife world books has a book called " The Standard Knife Collectors Guide 6th edition " It includes a grading system for placing a grade on the knife and estimating a price. since you already know antiques you should be able to ace the system in no time. Also you may want to take your time and fish around for the right buyers so you can get the best return for her. iKC would be a great place to start. Maybe post in the forum board.

      My personal opinion on fakers is that they are lazy. No matter how skilled they are they still don't want to dedicate to something reputable for their own work , they want to hitch a free ride with the people who have given their all to come up with something of quality. A shame indeed. Good luck to you on this task ahead of you and I hope you will post more pics of some of the others.
