In days gone by, folks used knives everyday and 'bout all day long. Knives were used for cleaning freshly caught fish for dinner, opening a can of beans to cook on the open fire, cutting rope and leather straps, to passing the time by whittling on a stick.

My how times have changed.

So, let me ask you- the last time you used your knife, what did you use it for?

Making a Peach Pit Basket.
I used it to cut open some boxes at work.

Trimmed the gristle & fat from a pork loin. My med Case stockman's main blade is perfect for this, and being CV holds an edge pretty good.

You don't cut them, unless the pits are from hot-house peaches. Those are soft. Good pits are extremely hard. About all you do is scrape a little off at a time. It is an addictive past-time. They're easy to carry around, so I always have something to do. I got a whole bunch of baskets made last year, during my youngest daughters soccer practices.

Am I weird or what- I can't find anything to cut, or scrape :)

Hey guys, I found a real whittler (not the knife, but a person). He teaches it too- been a professional whittler it for humpteen years. I'm interviewing him, via email now and expect to feature him on Cutlery News Journal next week. You know whittling is a dying art form.

Guess you're weird ! LOL Teacher at my daughters school asked me how I carved a monkey. Told him that I just removed anything that didn't look like one. (DUH)

To cut the top off of a push up popsicle for my Grandaughter,Oh and to open the mail,and to cut a water hose: Well thats what I used it for today
You are funny too.

Again today, I didn't have need for one. My dilemma- one day I'll tell you about it. The folks over at the ETCC know about it though. :)

i always use mine in the kitchen the most! Opening packets of sauce or rice or chicken, beef...I have also been known to cut meat with it if I'm not near a kitchen knife (most the time I use my knife anyway, cause it is sharper!)

Also, opening mail is the number two task.

I’ve been waiting for the "whittler" article, since you mentioned it. It was well worth the wait. Whittling is indeed becomming a lost art. I miss the days of seeing the “Old Timers”, sitting in the town square, making shavings. Thanks for a great article.
