(Probably why I have "too many" knives)..... 

 

One thing I do know is that the Glitter Gold, like any of the Acrylic/Perylic handle knives, will make an excellent EDC handle material.  I EDC two knives in this material and they have yet to show any use or wear.  Really tough stuff and I have become a real fan of it.  I have no reason to doubt that the Glitter Gold would perform equally as well.

Personally, I find the Glitter Gold to be attractive.  I don't have one, simply because I tend to buy the Northfield knives with all their little extras, while the Tidioutes have the Glitter Gold.  At least in the knife patterns that I personally collect.  But if one of my favorite Northfield patterns happened to appear in Glitter Gold, you bet I'd have one.

As a collector and dealer I focus on traditional patterns of pocket knives. I also personally prefer the traditional handle materials. Living in the hills of West Virginia I appreciate the "old ways". I buy,sell,trade and talk knives all over a three state area.And online. Any how I learn a lot about the early knives,brands,patterns,handle materials and such. What was popular in Grandpaps day,what somebody's father carried and so on. This brings me to the topic at hand,Glitter Gold Acrylic. In the early years of the 20th century,Celluloid was considered,what we might call,a "Space Age" wonder material. So many colors,so many color combinations,blends,swirls,etc. etc. In our Great Grandfathers day, the Glitter colors were among the most popular among the mixes in this new material. Glitter Gold was probably the most popular of these glitter colors. Glitter Red was also very popular. I have also seen Glitter Green and Glitter Blue. I have seen a number of glitter celluloid handled knives,in various stage of preservation,or not so preserved. Glitter Celluloid Push Button knives,Glitter Celluloid Fish Tail knives,and so on. My point in all this long ramble is that,once upon a time,Glitter Gold was a VERY popular and respected handle color. Many thanks to Bill Howard and the Folks at Great Eastern Cutlery for reviving this Old-Time handle color AND replacing the Celluloid with Acrylic. I would be proud to carry a Glitter Gold Pocketknife anytime,anywhere.

Well we will admit to owning a Ben Hogan glitter gold.  It is a nice handle, shows off well on the Ben Hogan but to be honest we bought it for the blade stamp Good As Gold originally.  I did not think I would like it as much as I did.  As with all GEC acrylic handles it holds up well when handled alot.  Donnie prefers the jigged "natural" handles for work because they are less likely to slip or move when there is sweat and moisutre involved (construction in FL).  The glitter gold is a wonderful handle and the Ben Hogan shows it off very well.  I prefer the 66 mink and you all know I like the woods and the Beavertails.  If a GG ever comes out in a Mink I would probably carry one

I really don't have an opinion, its not my favorite looking handle option GEC has put out, thats why I don't have one. If I did, I may be a huge fan, but then I'd have a real opinion. I'm thinking about adding something in acrylic, but I'm not sure what. The micarta looks good too, I just love me some of that natural stuff.

 

We'll see.
