I know this has probably been dealth with and for that, I apologize. It's just that I have become confused about the differences between the following: Frontier Bone vs Primitive Bone vs Pioneer Bone; Natural Stag vs Genuine Stag, and I know there are some I'm forgetting. Is there a resource somewhere that explains these differences? I would be obliged. If not . . . well, that will be fine also. Hope everyone enjoyed the rendevouz. I'm making my plans for next year.

GENUINE STAG comes in the solid piece ,outside source,UNCUT,so GEC may cut and work with it.
NATURAL STAG comes in pre cut slabs, outside course.
NOW THE BONES!!!
FRONTIER bone is dyed to get dark look in middle and Pioneer bone is not.ONLY DIFFERENCE!
PRIMITIVE BONE on the other hand is another whole story.its bone that has been in the ground at least 60+years,GEC stabilizes it in house.this is why you have all the natural cracks that are loved so much but stay solid once you own knife.
HOPE I HELPED.
Excellent, Peter. That's just what I needed. You're the man!

gary how long have you been collecting and how long GEC? and no ,sir, you are the man...and ill show you why....how long you been collecting...GEC ESPECIALLY?
And the red stag? The original red stag that GEC worked with looks much different than the red stag on the newer models. I have also seen a few red elk stag. What's the story behind those handle materials?
Peter, I have loved pocket knives all of my life, since I was a kid. My grandfather had a yellow composition Case, and that was my first introduction (I still love the yellow Case!). But I have been an avid collector for only 3 years; I started in 2009. I have been collecting GEC for almost two years. Oddly, I didn't really like GEC at first; I was put off by the strong back springs. Gradually, however, I came to love that about them, and now my primary passion is GEC. Can't get enough of them. So there you have it . . . I'm a rookie :)

Gary,
The reds are actually dyed during the stabilization process but that is about all I know. The bone room is the one place you cannot visit on the tour. GEC does everything to and for their bone in house, most of it is proprietary and only known to them
I'd like to see them give the Red Elk another try if they can overcome cracking or whatever the problem was with using it. I thought that it was a very attractive handle material . I see on AAPK's store that a pair of the FTPR #72's are for sale at a premium price - ouch!
I should have looked here before I asked my question about the stags! Interesting about the Frontier and Pioneer bone too! You learn something new everyday.
