Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

We have done this for many years over 40 that I will admit too.  In 2007 when we changed the brand of knives we collected to GEC, we had to make some changes to how we found and bought our best peices.

Collecting knives is a love for us, it is not just the knives it’s the people. But my Momma always said if you want something, work for it. I go to knife shows, I am online talking with this and many other knife communities daily. I devote an average of two hours a day, each and every day. I support the communities involved with the knives I choose to collect GEC, Northfield and Tidioute. My humble opinion, the pursuit is half the pleasure.

So I guess my question is two fold.  How much time do you devote and how do you find your best peices?

Jan,

I started collection GEC's because they are New,USA made, well documented knives.. They are easy for the beginner to research.  My best pieces were obtained through internet research and lucky timing.

I started collecting knives just 48 years ago and have taken interest in every phase from production to custom during that time.  I now enjoy some very special and personal knives by Dan Crotts, and Bob Dozier, and several favorite patterns by Great Eastern of course.

I pretty much "live" knives, as my main enjoyment is in the use of them, and my other interests go hand in hand with my love of  knives.  There is so much to learn, know and enjoy about this simple tool!

I also enjoy the knife forums and blogs where I feel welcome, which unfortunately does not include all of them.

I enjoy the friends I meet here and we have some good fun while sharing our knifely passions.

As far as my own "Special" pieces, I custom order from Dan and Bob who are most accomodating to my requests.  The steels and heat treatment they use are superior to all.  As for Great Eastern?  That's where the forums come in!  I have enjoyed several very special production runs the past few months just by posting requests and asking.  GEC may not be a "Custom Shop" by choice, but they certainly are very customer oriented and friendly.  They are truly full of surprises!
