Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I don't need the bells and whistles of the Northfields to be happy, it's not that I don't like them, but I don't like them as much as the other two brands.

Theres something about the Tidioute brand that really just reminds me of a good day at work, theres a simple man attitude with these knives. I've used the Tidioutes the most, and they really handle everything I throw at them, with ease I might add. This is my favorite brand, just because I like'm best.

Then theres the Great Eastern Cutlery brand. I can't look at my Toothpick and not think of a lazy float down the Tionesta river. I love my carbon steel, but there is something to GECs 440-c that strikes me, I just love it. I'll never be able to look at it and see a great old patina from years of making stories, but I'll never forget the memories made with that blade, I don't need a dark patina to remind me of those good times.

So how does your list of favorites go?

Like yourself, my favorite knives tend to be the ones I spend time with and that accompany me on my many outings.  When I'm camping or hiking I like to go "light but right" and over the years one tends to discard a lot of the excess baggage.  But I've always remembered what my old SERE instructor taught me in the military, "With a knife you survive.  Without one you need a miracle".  So I'm never without at least two good knives, remembering the old adage that "two is one, one is none".

So what are my Brand favorites?  That's a hard choice because I use and enjoy all three.  I personally like and appreciate all the little Northfield "extras" that make it a real classy knife and a pride to show.  I like the straight forward utility and clean lines of the Tidioutes because they just look all business.  I like the GEC's with their clean lines and 440-C blade steel, not because they stay bright and shiny, but for the extra edge holding the 440-C steel and heat treat gives, which allows me more use with less touch up of the blade in the field.

I like to keep one knife plus sharpening gear stashed in my "72 Hour Emergency Evac Bag" that is always in my closet packed and ready.  I keep another in the Jeep with my emergency water, food, and other gear, also with a sharpening kit.  My backpack contains an extra knife along with my 24 hour emergency gear and supplies.  And of course I have at least two on my person.  Those knives tend to be any of the three brands depending upon what my current favorites happen to be, and they always seem to be changing, but that's part of the fun of outfitting yourself with the "perfect knife".

In the real world the "perfect knife" is the one you have with you when you need it most.

We also prefer the Tidioute.  Even though most of what we have is in the collection, the bells and whistles are not necessary for us.  And ya'll know I am a carbon junkie!!

While my Tidioute #73 is away on vacation, I've been using a certain Northfield Buffalo #73 exclusively. I'm becoming almost attached to it, but thats gonna change whenever the mailman gives me my knives back. I would take a Northfield over nothing, but I do enjoy the other brands.

I currently only have one Great Eastern Cutlery brand knife, but I have two more on the way, so I'll have some fun with stainless for a while. I hope to get a good review going for the #72s, but I don't have them in hand yet, so I'm not gonna have much of a leg up on Dave. :)

Thanks for sharing guys.

Today's the day Johnny.  I can feel it.

I'm looking forward to hearing about it later today.

That will give me something to enjoy until mine shows up.
