I am really looking at the 23 with stag, figuring why not start out with one of the best, what do you guys think?  Also who on the web has the best prices on the GEC?  thanks

Bruce,

We all use a variety of Dealers.  I prefer TSA because he has get selection, older and newer models.  He shows the pistures of the actual knife.  Bob at Old Hundred knives and of course Ken Mundhenk are both a little active right here.  Tom I believe uses Mike at Collectors knives.  You can also contact Chris at Great Eastern directly and purchase that way.

The 73 was our first GEC purchase.  It is a very versatile knive that is the right size to carry and use.  If your looking at Stag then it will be a stainless blade.  Recently many of our 1095 folks have gotten hooked on the stainless.  Let us know what you decide on..we love pictures

Bruce, my first GEC was a #23, I got it out of the tube and my first thought was, where am I gonna put this??? I thought it was too big... as a (pocket) knife. But, I got a holster for it and I put it to good use, it served me well, and it still serves me, I just have others I enjoy too much.

I'm with Jan, you can't go wrong with the #73, probably my all time GEC favorite, they really did well with this knife. It's the little big knife at 3 3/4. I've done a lot with the #73 so I know from first hand, it's a tough knife. I also like the #25, it's the tiny tank, at 3'' closed. A very tough little cutter. But, you can't go wrong with a GEC.

Please keep us posted on your pick, I'm sure you will love whatever you get. Welcome to the madness. : )

Bruce,

My first GEC was a Northfield #54 Stockman/ Whittler in Tractor Green. It is not quite as beefy as the #23 which I also have but acquired later. I liked the #54 because I am a sucker for a nice clip blade and with two other blades to help out I figured that I couldn't go wrong. My first #54 had a bit of side to side play in the blade and I returned it for another knife (same model) which was fine. I guess it all depends on how you carry your knife (pocket or sheath) and what you intend to do with it. If the #23 is too big consider a #73. It is a lot more pocket friendly. I am a big fan of the #72 lockbacks too. Some other nice smaller GEC's are the #48 Trapper, #66 Calf Roper, #56 Dogleg Jack?, and of course the #25 Barlow/Jack. I carry a #25 Tidioute Appaloosa Bone New Aged Wharncliffe Barlow Jack that I like alot and get quite a bit of use out of and I hardly know it's in my pocket except when I need it. Is that clear as mud? Sorry but I like them all!!! Lots of folks swear by the #62 Courthouse Whittler too. If money is not too much of an object spring for your #23 (if that's what you choose) in Genuine Stag or Primitive Bone. I have a two blade #23 in Genuine Stag - I love it but it's a beast!

Bruce,

what did you decide on?

still thinking, havn't pulled the trigger yet.
So many good ones to choose from.
Now is a good time to pick up a 23 since they've started a new run of those within the last few days.
What are you gonna do with this first GEC? Collect or use it. If you use it, what will you use it for?
Good question Robert, GECs are easy too use, they just DO. : )
